Hello, I'm new here and I truthfully have no idea where to post this question, so I picked here. I have all 6 of the "classic" Yes albums (The Yes Album - Going For The One), and I've listened to them all besides Tales, which I'm listening to now(I've listened to two and a half tracks so far- it's coming damn close to Relayer so far). Anyway, which album should I get next?

I'm planning on getting them all eventually.

But which album should I get next? They have like 20 more albums other than "the big six" so I'm sure there's many different possible answers, but what the hell, might as well ask the true Yes fans.

Magnification is very cool. It's a different side of YES.

All is a good answer, but I would recommend the live album Yessongs for some better-than-the-studio versions of several of the songs.

If you like the 80's pop orientation of the band, 90125 (Owner of a Lonely Heart you must have heard) is pretty good.

I like The Ladder myself, but it doesn't match the original seven.

Personally, I love the first two albums...Yes and Time and a Word. I would also consider some of the band members' solo projects, such as Jon's Song of Seven or Olias of Sunhillow, Rick's Six Wives of Henry the VIII, Chris' Fish out of Water, etc.

Explore and enjoy!

Yes, as previously mentioned; "YES" and "Time and a Word" are essential to your collection. It shows their humble, yet brilliant beginnings and the leap they took with their 2nd release. "Drama" is also as unique as "Relayer" within the YES formula.

Every single person here is going to give you totally different advice.

You've got the best ones. It's a real possibility that you will be dissapointed by everything else.

Yessongs is a good one to get, the live Yes Album songs are far better than their studio counterparts.

Magnification is good, showing Yes with an orchestra and it's fairly varied.

Tormato is OK but not brilliant.

Drama is very good, however its Yes without Jon. Beware!

If you havn,t got them already, Olias and song of seven are well worth getting,

But a dvd is something you can watch also, like House of blues or Magnification also 90125 live is another

it really depends on what and how much your into thier music, but relayer is another classic,

getting all is really the only way to go, maybe

then check out the weed section too, whatever you do, enjoy the experience and your time here, :D

I have to vehemently disagree.

Keystudio RULES.

After Yessongs, get Keystudios.

How the heck does Cindy convert every thread into Trevor? I am going to have a talk with that lad. He must be casting a spell. This is silly. (wink at Cindy)

Back to the thread, I would listen to all of them very careully then, using the language of the cd's you listened to, write a detailed letter to Jon explaining the reason you need for OUI to release another album.

I'd go for: 90125, Magnification, or Time and a Word

The Ladder saved my life.
Literally!!
What a masterpiece it is...and it spoke to me at a time that I needed it the most.

Yes has a funny way of making me think about ME, and the albums seem to revolve and be released JUST when I need them..
I had broken up with my girlfriend of 5 years when The Ladder came out..
And here came Jon telling me. to let go, understand new Languages...let go, start over, all is well...'

It was fortuitous to say the least, and kept me from going to the dark side. perfect timing.....

I love The Ladder

Tormato and Drama should be your next two Yes CDs.

Yessongs is a must.

ABWH and Magnification should follow soon after.

"The big six" was the best way to start. I'm with the group that recommends Yessongs and Magnification next.

Drama might be a good move for you as well as Tormato. But Drama is relevant at this point as this Summer, Drama material WILL be played for the first time in 25 years..........

Id have to say the Ladder. Its not to complex and has some really simple and catchy songs on it, you dont have to think about it, you can just let it play. Its also a good introduction to their more recent stuff.

Drama! Because Yes needs to RAWK sometimes too.

After that, for studio stuff I'd recommend Time And A Word, and all the Rabin stuff (90125, Talk, Big Generator). The Ladder and Magnification also need a definate +1.

Live Yes is excellent all around. Get both Yessongs and Yesshows, they both have high points though sometimes the mix is a bit lacking.

Alternatively, you could just get them in random order if your gonna get all of them anyway.

I'm in favour of chronology, so yes, Tormato and then Drama.
But I must confess when I started buying Yes albums I'd choose the next one only by the cover art that appealed to me most at that time!

You must get Time & A Word first, because this capture's the band as they are really starting to take off. Then:

Drama: Machine Messiah will blow you away.

The Ladder: Yes really came good again with this one.

Magnification: Classic.

90125: View this eighties excursion as a totally separate thing from Yes really (find out about Cinema) and there is much to enjoy.

Tormato: Not my favourite by a long way, but this album is a must for On The Silent Wings Of Freedom alone.

Yes: The debut: A bit light, but still a Yesfan essential.

Keys To Ascension 1 + 2: The mid-nineties return of the classic era is a bit creaky, but Mind Drive is a very good attempt at a Yes epic.

Big Generator/Talk: If you like the Rabin fused 90125, then you should like these.

Anderson, Bruford, Wakeman, Howe. Running parallel, to Rabin's YesWest, this album is very enjoyable and has the awesome Order Of The Universe.

Union/ Open Your Eyes. Unless you are a sucker for punishment, you can avoid these two.
