I always thought that the naked guy was symbalic of some one at a point of a newbegining when we are born were naked( its kinda adam and eve ish) he is standing before the new world(technology/skyscrappers) and all those little lines are diffrent paths he can take? thats just what I think.

I always think of "lost in the city" when I see that cover. The nakedness symbolizes vulnerability, and the hard, angular lines of the "buildings" seem so overwhelming.

The other thing I think of right away is "whoa, some naked guy's butt. cover that up or something!"

The first time I saw the cover of GFTO, I was in the record store. I casually walked past it, glanced at it, did a double take, and almost fell over. Then I went closer for a peek, but the guy behind the counter was looking at me and I didn't want him seeing me looking at the cover. It was a very funny situation. I do believe I was blushing.

The real identity of that naked dude we'll probably never know for sure. But(t) that's not really important is it? I think it's pretty sure to say that it wasn't any of the band members. Somebody once pointed out here that after the naked chick in TAAW, they probably wanted to provide a balance so now they use the opposite sex.

Also, after the big successes of CTTE and Fragile, Yes were beginning to sell less albums beginning with Tales and then Relayer. So they thought they should put a distance between the "then" Yes and the "now" Yes. Not only they wrote shorter songs (Awaken is an exception), they begin it with a very un-Relayer-y intro with Steve's guitar. Then the cover, another Roger Dean creation might look too similar to the previous 4 albums.
