View Full Version : Yes Song Clips

I wonder if the Band (Yes) could perhaps for a fee
give permission for the site to post short (say 30 seconds)
song clips to give those who haven't heard the good news...
a brief sample so that it might give them incentive.... to....
It could have like a song thread or listening room of its own
just a thought...

Who is going to pay the fee? Then how do I pay for the increased bandwidth usage? great Idea but may never see the light of day.

Well you could ask the band for a "waiver"....
or it would probably be their publisher...
theres a concept in copyright where you are allowed to
use a portion of "printed material" but music?
Its called "fair use" . In a way you'd be advertising for the band.
The increase in bandwidth would be an "indicator" of the
advertizing effectiveness (ie: number of hits and bandwidth indicate
popularity and effectiveness) as well you could maybe add a "paypal"
donation link on that thread and well it would be a leap of faith in a way
and more work so you'd have to figure some % for yourself.
Hmmmm maybe not such a good idea?
I suppose it would if wished to be persued would be wise to talk to
a "net lawyer"....
just google "global law"....
hmmmm do I think to much?
perhaps a walk is in order....

Then again I suppose if people wanted to find some Yes music
on the web they probably could but then again I think it honors
the band by "supporting" there efforts in a tangible way...
a persons or a band has bills too.... so well I don't know ???
"then that pays the piper ...
requests the tune"

There are MANY ways currently to help support this site as it is today, and that JUST pays the light bill here. To addy a music clips thing would jack those costs up I think.

Well you're right...
Twas just a thought...
Like I said ....
sometimes I think to much....
I'll try to refrain somewhat but anywho
thanks for the response...
Its kinda cool and cloudy here today in Central Alberta...
but still a nice sunday.

no, no need to refrain.
Go to amazon.com
Many CD's have clips of the songs.

My guess is that all members are here because they already love the music. And the bandwidth would definitely be an issue.
But thanks for the suggestion. Keep 'em coming!

Nothing really to do with this point. But is it legal to host a 30 second clip of a song or something like that for free?
I heard that you are allowed to have a short clip of a song, video on a website without any Copyright issues or costs.
Is this true?
I ask this because I wish to do that
