I just saw a guided travel package to Croatia and Slovenia. That's where I'd go. I'd get coordinates from a pre-WWII map and find the town where my grandmother was born in Croatia. Something I've always wanted to do.

I'm not a traveler and I really have no desire to be anywhere but where I am.
I never have the desire to go anywhere warm. I suppose if I could I'd like to go to Alaska. Probably this summer when it's 100° here in hot, muggy, Virginia, I'll want move to Antarctica.

the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia - because of their collection of Rembrandts

Stuttgart, Germany - because my brother is there "Officially"

standing at The Wall in Jerusalem - because (words will never suffice)

My aunt's farm in Alabama where the night sky in the summer is black from horizon to horizon and the stars are so bright and brilliant it's scarey to this city girl. (I sleep the rest of the dead when I am there...no stress, no worries)

"Home" will forever be in my mind now as my mother sold her house last week. She is moving here to Florida.

Key West, Florida or the upper Keys near Marathon... with my baby who loves me still and holds me like we're teenage sweethearts still after 24 years.

I'd like to be instantaneously transported to Havasu Falls, deep in the Grand Canyon.
I've rafted the Colorado, but I never did get to Havasupi...
You may have seen pictures of it... Photos tend to wind-up on both inspirational plaques and stash-boxes...

A series of terraced waterfalls, each emptying into the next turqouise pool like a tiered romanesque fountain... The water is magnesium-rich, which gives it that color of sky blue that you often find in the tropics, but seldom find in the canyonlands...

The Grand Canyon, also called 'God's Boss Ditch' (...Called 'God's Boss Ditch' by whom? By God, oh course!).

I remember my first time, one always remembers the first time...

Standing on the edge of The South Rim, gravity-fingers pulling me closer, I stare straight down, the abyss stares back...
The abyss winks, pulls the rug of comprehension out from my feet, I'm lost in dream-like vertigo spin the senses far and past the point of wonder-capacity overload.

I can nearly hear those Anasazi-whispers, these trickster spirits are up to no good...

..Gently slip my child and thistledown so-gently now enjoin and float so soft one doesn't fall but glides beside the red-tail hawk a mile down and men can fly I swear on hot air eddies hoodoo wavefronts static stones and watch no step to fall and drift this pastel distance whisper slip whisper slip whisper sli...

I grab the handrail and shake the dangerous magic from my thoughts.

It's all TOO much!
With 360 degree vision, you still couldn't capture the sweep.

Perhaps one of them newfangled Giant Eyeball Creatures from Proxima Centauri could take it all in, if he were suspended by tether from his flying-saucer-thingamabob.
Beyond that scenario, comprehension is futile.

Describing 'The Canyon' requires a form of poetry uninvented as of yet... Perhaps a fusion of words dreams and heat-lightning would work.
I'm not sure, as it hasn't been invented yet.

The onrush of color, depth, and non-euclidian geometry dazzles the eyes and shrinks the testicles.

One can tell this place wasn't designed with humans in mind.

Sometimes the meaning of it all nearly comes into focus, only to disappear at the ghost-limb touch of the mind's farthest reach.
Try as I may, I can only grasp at handrails as my understanding finally recoils back into the comfort of sine-wave abstraction...

All one can eventually do is gather the kids at the edge of the known universe and take a digital photo for next years Xmas Card...

The ancient ones continue to whisper...
Persistent little buggers.

Right now, at this very moment? Well, I'd like to be standing atop Uluru. But, seeing as how I don't have near enough money for that......there's this spectacular little rift in the Columbia Gorge, about twenty miles from where I work, called Oneonta Gorge.

You have to hike back into the rift, about 1/2 mile or so, over rocks & downed trees, walking through the creek the whole time. At the end of it, is a small bowl shaped chasm, where the creek falls from about 40 feet above your head. It's quiet, cool, and absolutely gorgeous! It's been my own personal temple, since the age of 16.

But would you be able to contend with minimal daylight (4-5 hours) during specific parts of the year?

I've also read that when tourists arrive during the summer months, they arrive to a bright midnight sky and when they inquire as to when it gets dark there, a typical Icelander reply is usually, "in the middle of August."

I'd say, a private beach in Hawaii. PRIVATE. Nobody else.... With a guitar, a junky old red Toyota, a CD player with my favorite mix Yes CD, and a clean, small, and simple beach shack that had everything inside it that I would need for a month. Of course, time would be standing stll for the time I was there (yes, things still move), so I would have no worries. Oyeah, and an old, big dog. Now reasons for these things:

I like Hawaii

I'm a hermit. I don't like people. Talking to people who have brains is ok, but I really don't like people. I avoid them.

I have OCD and I like things very clean.

I play the guitar a little, but don't really have time to get past my 5 chords. So I would teach myself there. Just figure it out.

I have bad anxiety issues (I know, I'm such a special person), so I would have time stand still so I didn't have to feel like I was falling behind on any work.

I like old junky (but clean) cars.

I like big dogs, and old dogs.

I love Yes! :rightG:

PS. Ok so this is where I would want to be, but also what I would want to have with me.

I'd like to be anywhere, because anywhere is better than nowhere at all, I'm working on moving away from my home province. I can no longer stand living in this godforsaken cowtown, since I'm left feeling uninspired, need new scenery, things to do, as a matter of fact most people here listen to country and go to bars, there isn't that much to do here. If I'm rabbling on it's because I'm still between the stages of half asleep and awake. Typing seems to wake me up. I've only stayed because of my very old parents........mother...she's76, and dad....81.
What I do know is that Winnipeg is behind the times by about 10 years. They go and build an arena and we don't even have a hockey team anymore. The music scene here is vastly disappointing, all the great artists always bypass us. Perhaps this complaining belongs to a different thread?
Vancouver is where I want my final destination to be, I like the idea of living by the ocean and hardly seeing any more snow.

At this very moment I would love to be in the mountains. Walking around and breathing in the fresh air and enjoying the beauty of a heavy snowfall. Having a goofy snowball fight. Making snow angels. A nice cozy cabin for retreat. A warm glowing fire.

I second that thought. Asheville NC would be nice!

Riding wee seahorses with the fairy king.

But if I were there and was asked if I could be anywhere on the planet, then I would say at home in front of the computer saying hi to you.

Has anyone seen or heard anything about a note posted about 2 years ago by YES that they were planning to tour with the surviving members of the Grateful Dead? Any updates on live discs to be available immediatly after a Yes concert? Those seem to have just faded away.....

There was talk of a joint tour at one point, but it never came to fruition.

Welcome to the site, Ratdog!

That's the question on the table......tell us where you'd go and why.
Are we allowed another guess? I lost what was behind door number 4, OOPS!
:sneaky:

Tierra del Fuego for southern spring and the botany, birds and fungi there; there must be terrestrial orchids poking up.
Oh, and 'Siberian Khatru' playing throughout the skies in perfect Mellotronic surround.

-yoursisnocross-eyeddisgrace- Which version of which 'America'?
Love dat Avatar- no-one expects the Spanish Yesquisition!

How about this??? for real now I think it would work if there where a band out there that could pull it off it would rock. Lady w/a fan>Solid time of chang-total mass-Iget up I get down>terripin Transit-Terripin station>Seasons of Man. That would be a killer first hour and with an orchrestra you could throw some magnification in the first set, it would make for a swingin' Shakedown st.
