YES have many great, long, epic songs. What is the longest playing, studio recorded track in the vast YES CD catalog?
Read the question carefully. Live versions do not count. This question has to do with stuff recorded in the studio.
Tales! To me it's one whole song! I love it!

I seem to remember reading that Gates was the longest Yes studio song.
It's .20 longer than Ritual.

According to my WMP it's The Solution ;)

If include all studio recordings - then longest single track without CD player track point is 'The Solution' @ 23 minutes 47 seconds and next closest is 'Dance of the Dawn' @ 23 minutes 35seconds total on latest Rhino mastering as studio run through - followed by 'The Revealing Science of God' @ 22 minutes 37 seconds and then 'Gates of Delirium' @ 21 minutes 56 seconds and then 'Ritual' @ 21 minutes 52 seconds and - okay last one - followed by 'Gates of Delirium' studio run through version @ 21 minutes 16 seconds.

Nice job, Umgekehrt!
The track called "The Solution" on the 'Open Your Eyes' album clocks in at 23:47 making it the longest "studio TRACK" in the YES CD catalog.
In all fairness, this was a trick question of sorts, as I did start off the thread mentioning the epic "songs". BUT, I did say to read the question carefully!!

Thank you, Cast Iron Leader, for this breakdown!

Actually "The Solution" is only 5:25. The remainder is an unnamed "Hidden Track."
I forgot that the added intro on the Rhino Tales remaster pushed it longer than Gates.

Yes were pretty strictly album-siders as far as epics go.
Now, any longer than 35 minutes for one song usually detracts from the overall quality - buying into this pompous prog stereotype - I'm not a big fan of album-lengthers.

Except for "Thick as a Brick," but that was more of a song cycle than one long song.
I also have to confess a weakness for some of Tangerine Dream's album-length live sets during the Schmolling era.
Particularly "Logos."
