View Full Version : Didn't Get This One
I didn't get In A Word: YES because I bought the first box set and the original albums on CD at least once. Between original reissues and remasters, I'd spent a lot of money on YES CDs and didn't feel like forking over $50 bucks for a collection of tracks I already owned.
I know there were a few unreleased tracks, but I didn't feel it justified the purchase.
Still, I would recommend it to anyone looking to get into the YES experience based on the tracklisting.

I'm glad I got this one. Bonus tracks are good to have. I think they did a good job putting the songs in the order they did. Ya this would be a good sampler pack. I listened to the whole thing over several days while on long car trips.

It's perfect for long road trips/airplane travel/etc...
It's almost as good as carrying your entire YES collection, as it does have a nice smattering from all the periods... I mean, you get ALL of 'The YES Album' except for 'Clap' and 'A Venture'... And it sort-of runs like that all the way through.
My only beef with the collection is, is that they didn't include Awaken (???!).
Other than that snafu, it's a lotta bang for your buck.
It comes with a nice booklet (no 'let' about it actually, it's a BOOK fer Chris's sake!), and the remastering values are impeccable...
And my copy is signed by Roger Dean! ;)
Love it, a good collection, even without Awaken.

I got this as a christmas present but I would have bought it any way. I agree the extra tracks aren't worth 50 bucks by themselves but the package is great. The booklet has a picture taken 6/12/1976 as JFK stadium is filling. The crowd eventually hit 130,000 people, if you look close you can see me(not really) but I'm there.

I have it. I also have YesYears box set. Cassettes and CD's. I'm covered.
It was worth it for me. I also have Wakeman, White and Squire's sigs on both booklets now too.

I could buy this but I said to myself, Id rather buy all the Yes albums indivualy, it means ill have a more complete collection at the end and also I wont be paying for any tracks twice. I can see the appeal though.

Personally I can see the appeal if you have a healthy disposable income, but when your not a rich bastard I prefer to buy music I haven't heard before if you know what I mean.

I'm glad I bought it - a few extra tracks, great for car trips, good booklet with it.
Main Gripe - song selection. No And You And I or Awaken and too much overlap with Yesyears on some of the less popular songs.

if it was only 50 dollars i would buy it again. it cost 60 pounds in england when released over here and i gave it to my dad for his 60th birthday present. 60 pounds = 90 dollars or there about.

Gosh, I feel so lucky now. I got it on sale for less then $45 back in the Summer of 2003. I was just in the right place and the right time and picked it up on a whim. I thought I needed a quick way to get caught up on their latest. I remember during the MasterWorks concerts of 2000 how lost I felt not knowing some of the material. I felt like I had let YES down by being clueless. What can I say besides I'm a simple female.
Oy mia culpa!

This is where I am. I agree that it looks like a nice package, and is probably well worth the money if I didn't already have most of the songs anyways. I would only be hunting down non-album tracks.
Why can't they just package all the non-album tracks together and put them out there? I'd pay double a regular CD's cost for it, if it were complete. But I won't pay three or four times that much, and have it spread across several discs full of stuff I already have.
It's strictly for those who have the cash, and the record company knows it. With that price tag and high ratio of "repeat appearances", it's certainly not for the fans.

I bought it and forgot it. Most of the bonus tracks - the unreleased material - make clear cases for why they hadn't been released. Rubbish!
It's nice to get remixed BIG GENERATOR material. (I'm still hoping that'll get remastered...with bonus tracks!)
This is too much money for the casual listener to spend. It contains too many of the same old tracks for me to get excited about. I only bought it for the rare stuff, so for me it was a bit of a loss. Not that I'd sell it - or anything else by Yes! I'm too stuborn a "completist" to make such a reaonsable decision! Gotta own one of everything! (The same goes for me with King Crimson, Gentle Giant and Happy the Man. LOVE 'EM!)

P.S.: Hats off to Roger Dean for yet more beautiful artwork!
