Has anyone seen this DVD? I just recently discovered it.

It's a critical review of the band with interviews from Steve and various music critics who are for the most part fans of the band. Most of the live footage I've seen before except for some film from the early years of the band performing. Generally, the critics are very good and interesting.

I enjoyed hearing the difference of opinions and listening to them talk about the technical structure of the music. One critic demonstrates Steve's cord sequences and another talks in detail about Bill's style

I didn't like that fact that all but one trashed 'TALES' in the last chapter.
That's when I lost some respect for their opinions that I had gained through most of the DVD.

Hey Wendell!

I was wondering whether I should order this DVD from Classic Rock LTD, or whatever it is that they call themselves...

I have their Roger Dean:Images DVD. It's pretty ok.

Anyhow, I figured they'd blast TALES.

Still, they offer a lot of archives, I liked the ELP thing they put out.

Maybe I'll order it, but probably not!

Imagine, 'pompous' Prog-Fans.

Well Wendel 1973....when 'Tales' came out....I think it was Universaly slated at that time...I guess there was a feeling that 'Prog. Rock' was becoming over indulgent. Yes after releasing Tales got the brunt of the criticism. Even Yes lost a lot of fans after this album. Remember this was also close to the beginning of 'punk'.
We are looking at it now in retrospect, where it is seen in it's own light now that the hype over the prog. rock era has gone and punk has gone, so now it is seen in it's own true light. People either love or hate this album..in the same way they do with Yes. I was privelaged to see this album first time performed live, before the release of the album.

I have this DVD - I didn't think all that much of it. Who are these guys anyway? And how dare they slag off Tales?

You are correct.

They know little, and should re-evaluate the material of what PROG is.

Small minds, big wallets.

Always a buck to be made...

Numbnuts of Prog.

I agree...who are these guys? Two days later I found and rented the 'Pink Floyd 75-96' version from this same series and there again were these same guys.

The problem with the DVD isn't the opinions (which are moderately interesting to hear) but the lack of footage and interviews with the band members.

I also rented the a different series on 'Dark Side of the Moon'. The band interviews and history behind it's creation was beautiful. plus the music is simply brilliant

I'm 50-50 with this dvd. Some interesting critique but,in the same breath arrogance.Especially, the "critic"who "demonstrated" the "simplicity" of Steve's chords. When his(name?) first album comes out I will post a review.

I have the Genesis one from 1975-1980. It’s pretty cool because it shows a lot of footage from the Duke tour (BBC owns this); which isn’t available anywhere else. But it was pretty boring having the guys critique the albums, rather than having band interviews. I own it solely because of the Duke footage; the rest of it is amateur work. I honestly have no plans to buy any other of their releases, including the Yes one.

Btw, they pretty much loved the work Genesis did in this dvd.

Whether you love or hate the Tales album I think we all have to agree that it was and always will be a very important chapter in Yes history. I too saw the Tails concert before the album was released. At the time I thought 'Thank God I had bought Close to the Edge'! A good proportion of us left the concert thinking/saying 'what on earth was that all about'!!

Needless to say I bought the album as soon as it was released (or as soon as I could afford to and have loved it ever since although my wife (also a mega Yes fan) hates it. I have the whole album on my mobile and part of Remembering is my ring tone. I have two wishes - One to hear Remembering live in concert once again and two to have a live album with Remembering on it don't think either of them will come true

Vic, Actually the French guy redeemed himself in my eyes when he described TALES as a masterpiece. The others who I mostly agreed with throughout the tape disappointed me by not defending TALES. Give the French a break!

I like hearing fans analyze and dissect YES music. They made some very interesting comments that praises the incredible accomplishments of YES.
Too bad it was edited down so much.

I've watched it several times now but I eject it when they start to bash TALES.

I simply cannot (for the life of me) understand why TALES was recieved so badly by many, especially fans of the band. I thought it was brilliant, right from the start. I stayed in awe thoughout the whole TALES concert with tears of bliss running down my face. Granted I was tripping but that never influenced my basic love of that album. It has all the hallmark YES elements, great melodies, incredible lyrics, experimental arrangements and a theme/mood that is pure Yes. RSOG & Ritual blow my mind. The Remembering is childlike and gorgeous while The Ancient is outrageously raw, bold and a great example of the courage YES has to do the unthinkable. I just don't get the critism and never will...Open Your Eyes....

I got the DVD as a present and it's a piece of sh*t. A few comments by Steve doesn't make this worth you money. What do I care when some unknown studio guy shares his opinons. All the other DVD's in this series are done like this, with generally the same people! On Henry Potts' site you can read what Robert Fripp thinks of these crap DVD's.

Robert Fripp recently issued a warning in King Crimson's newsletter saying Classic Rock DVDs are low in content quality as much of the footage is less than 10 seconds long, avoiding the need to pay royalties!

Because in Townsville, Australia, theres barely any Yes DVD's or CD's for that matter! Luckily for me I found Live in Philly..., House of Yes and Yesspeak from 2 different stores... and thats about it for us. I once saw Symphonic Live for sale but didn't have the money to get it... and when I did... IT WAS GONE!!! (at least theres another Yes fan in Townsville to appreciate that DVD.)

Keeping on the subject, this DVD is all new news to me... I agree that it would be interesting to see what other fans opinions of Yes music is and their theories.

Tom Brislin

Brislin does a great job, but the orchestra is intense. Not over done, but very well placed into the YES style of each song. YES at it's fullest!
"WONDERFUL"!

I've had the "Inside Yes" dvd for quite a while now and only played it the once. All I remember thinking at the time was; why did they stop it at 1973?
At the least, it seemed an odd place to end their commentary.
I also found that it did'nt contribute very much to the knowledge of the band and their music, and as such, was a waste of money.
- But each to their own!
