Call me crazy, but I just recently learned that the entitled song "Hold out your hand" was done by Chris on Fish Out of Water. I heard that song back in 1975/76, on the local rock station here, never knew who it was, even though it sounded so familiar! I remember even recording it on 8-Track, off of the radio. What a great song.

Thanks for the years Mr. Christopher Squire !!

Tom:

Get the album, buy the album, it is a great and wonderous thing.

I think its the best of the Yes solo albums from the 70's. It's even better than Olias, imho.

Tom you don't own FooW? For shame.

Nightliner is right, it's the best. Although, Steve Howe released Beginnings in '79 and I'd rank that a close second with Olias in '76 coming in 3rd.

I love Jon but he's a little out there sometimes for my tastes. To this day, I can't make it through all of Animation. Just not my cup of tea. What do you guys think of Animation?

03-27-2002, 11:31 PM
Well Alysoun, I'm with you on Animation, though there are a lot of folks on this site who do not agree with us. Now, I just love Jon and I have tried to listen to it and in my opinion, it's not near far enough out there for me. I would like to direct you to the Jon's solo works thread where there is a lot of discussion regarding which of Jon's solo works is the best. If you are at all interested in getting to know his stuff, you'll get some useful information there. Have you heard Olias? I thought that was really good. I would also recommend City of Angels, Short Stories and Friends of Mr Cairo to start. You will not be sorry. Toit-Tom was nice enough to share his with me and that's how I came to know them and I am really glad for it.

And Tom, if you would like, I'd be happy to copy Fish Out of Water for you. Let me know. It's pretty good too. I remember when I first got it--a million years ago--I liked it a LOT. But I have not heard it in many years.

Thanks Pat,

I would love to have Chris' FOOW on CD, since you now have a new burner. I tell you what.....that other CD with the interview with Jon was just wonderful. The DESEO mixes are still gleaming in my sub-conscience mind.....forever. We need to get the Alumni together this summer....somewhere evenly between LA, and NY.

I would love to meet Earl, and all of the rest of us!!!

GOOD DAY:yesbird: :yesbird: :yesbird: :yesbird:

Cool, so glad you are enjoying them! I'll get cracking on it and let you know when it's done. It may be a little while as I am overwhelmed with paperwork--tax time coming up and such but I won't forget.

If you insist on trading, or giving away copies of things that are commercially available, keep it off the site.

Thank you.

I'm patiently awaiting an import of FISH OUT OF WATER from Coconuts. Sadly, Chris Squire's wonderful album has not been issued on CD in the USA. This album is a must. I'm quite certain FOOW is our only opportunity to hear Chris, Patrick Moraz and Bill Bruford on the same tracks together. The songs are all terrific. Fans of MAGNIFICATION, if you haven't heard FISH OUT OF WATER yet, CAN YOU IMAGINE sounds like it would have fit right in. In my opinion, every track is essential. My favorite is SILENTLY FALLING. The worst track SAFE (CANON SONG) is still a great track! No filler here...Get it or I will make jell-o in your shoes.
Until my CD arrives I can fortunately listen to a cassette copy I made about 10 years ago...

Tom:

When you get Foow (one of my ALL TIME faves -- it gets played every day), keep in mind that
Parallels was a track that was cut out of the album. I always have imagining where it might
have fit in FooW.

And, folks, Nightliner is right.
If you copy studio releases for people, do it with the stipulation that they *must* go out and BUY the copy eventually. Support the artists!!!

Besides Bruford and Moraz, you have Jimmy Hastings on flute (Caravan), Mel Collins on sax (King Crimson et al.), Andrew Pryce Jackman (Squire's old buddy from choir and fellow member of the Syn), Barry Rose (choirmaster) on organ, Pete Sinfield (lyrics on Safe), and the *orchestra* -- and don't forget those tulular bells.

So get this album and play it often.

And let us know what you think.

Allison
I do not work for the Chris Squire managment company in any way :)

Hey nightliner, I did not think it was still available. But thanks for the tip.

Ok Tom you heard them. I'm happy to make you one but if you can find it, you have to buy it.

Tom and Pat:

It is not available in the US as a US release.
You have to order it as a import.
If you go onto Ebay, there are, at any given moment, at least 5 copies for auction.
And any online record shop (Amazon, for example) can get a copy to you in no time at all.

I would imagine though that the import version is the only way it would count--as far as letting Chris get a piece of it. If Tom goes and buys a used copy on ebay or Amazon, Chris would not get any of that.

Pat:

Yes, you are right.

As an import version, you can expect to pay about $18.00 for it and *it is worth every penny*

Out of all the solo albums (Olias, Ramshackled, Beginnings, the Story of I), FooW did the best.
There was an American broadcast of "Hold out your Hand / You by my Side" on US TV in 1977.
There is a clip of it on the Yes Years documentary. The whole performance is not available unless someone taped it from TV. Too bad, it is *way cool*

There is a really good import record store here in St. Louis that Tom can go to for the import version. It's called Now Hear This. I'll bet they could get you one Tom.

P.S. I hold out my hands to all of you!

I think I even saw an autographed copy of FooW on ebay just last week, when I was looking for the Relayer poster for the guy with the snake...

I check out ebay all the time. I get my best Yes stuff from there.

03-30-2002, 08:53 PM
Hey Trooper1129, I don't think nightliner wants you to talk about getting anything like that since there will be no royalties for the guys.

Yeah, I wasn't thinking...sorry.

I get mostly memorabilia stuff from Ebay and I try to get my autographs in person. I did however get a special edition of Magnification, autographed by Jon, Chris, Steve and Alan, but from Barnes and Noble and I know the guys authorized it and got royalties from that.

Please excuse my previous indiscression.

Sure Trooper1129!

I got one of those autographed Magnifications from Barnes and Noble too as did another Yes fan friend of mine. He's thinking of getting his framed because, of course, you never want to open it! I think that's a really good idea.

Now to the matter of autographs in person....Please tell me your technique!

Just don't let any kids near autographed copies of CD's.

03-31-2002, 10:03 PM
Yes, I'm afraid I would have to be jailed. Good thing I don't have any kids.

Pat, I honestly don't know what it is...right time & right place I guess.

Speaking of which....I went to the Dream Theater show Thurs night, all by myself, last minute decision and yeah, I had a blast. The show was 3 1/2 hours long. They did all of Six Degrees like I wanted and then they did all of Master of Puppets too and then 2 encores. I'm so glad I decided to go.

I of course hung around after the show and made 3 new friends as well, namely John Petrucci, Mike Portnoy and Jordan Rudess. I got their autographs and pics taken with all of them. No one was more surprised than me that night. I didn't plan on meeting them I was just talking to some chick from music news network and I turned around and just about walked into Petrucci. I didn't have their CD with me for them to sign, no camera, nothing. I was just chatting with him and he signed my ticket stub and Christine (the girl from MNW) asked if I wanted a picture with him, so she snapped me with him and then she introduced me to Mike and snapped me with Mike and she did the same with Jordan.

It has to be luck because I can't explain it. It just happens to me.

It just so happens that I found the ENTIRE video clip at the Yes Museum:

Here's the URL: (However, it takes a LONG time to load, and the vid itself is quite jerky, but it's well worth it!)

For best results, load the URL into the Quicktime player!

That is so nice of you to find that and post it for us. Thanks!
