i just got this today too and it is good, but i do not understand why the single of soon cut off at the end, it is not fair to howe as he just gets faded away and the song only had a minute or so more anyways, why didnt they end it like the original delirium does?
Top 40 radio has time limits. That's just the way it's done.

so anything over 4:06 would have been too long?
Even fans of Yes music find Yes songs too long. So, to some, even 3 minutes is too long.
Soundchaser had a single edit made, too, but I've never heard it.

I presume this means that you don't have the Rhino remaster of Relayer?
You are really missing out on the best version of this album thats out there.
As for Soon, Steve Howe was very unhappy with the edit and I understand that a different edit was done for the US version of the 35th Anniversary Ultimate Collection - I haven't heard it so I don't know if the differences are substantive.

I seem to recall hearing that it was Chris that insisted on the new edit. I could be wrong, though.
Actually, the 35th Ann. version has restored the ending of "Soon." MUCH better than that crappy old edit that showed up on a couple of previous compilations.
Funny, but I used to have a radio edit LP of Relayer. Gates of Delerium was in three sections. The "Soon" (or "part 3") section started right at the long sustained chord wash (right after the ba-da-da-da-boommmmm, ba-da-da-da-boommmmm, ba-da-da-da-boommmmm, ba-da-da-da-, It started on the last Boommmmmmm). Sections one and two just . . . just faded out . . .Part one when the up-tempo instrumental section started, Part Two at the previously mentioned ba-da-da-da-boommmmms.

Thats interesting because I recall an interview with Steve that bemoaned that the edit started too late and missed his intro. This was many years ago long before the Ultimate Collection. Chris may have insisted on the change for that though.
I do have the Rhino version.
As for the Soon ending, I'd never heard anything but the original full ending. Only the radio played the edit. I simply don't recall the ending clipping off the last minute or so. They would have been smarter cutting a verse out.
The Soundchaser edit just omits all of the lyrics and starts at the up tempo section and goes to the end. Dumb.
The regular songs sound good, but the "bonus" tracks are of no value to me.

what matters is fans have the whole song and radio listeners get the edits, just like on fragile we have the whole version of america and close has the edit.

I love the live versions of Ritual, which are close to a half hour.
The only Yes song that I thought was too long was The Ancient. (Sorry Amy!).
