View Full Version : The Stats That Really Matter

umgekehrt

When you look at the members list, you're going to get all kinds of information like user name, home page, join date, post count, last visit, reputation, birthday and age. Now seriously, who needs all that data? These are the ones that we really want to know about our fellow members: posts per day and thread count.

From the top ten posters here, let's see how many times they hit "send" in a day.

User Name Posts PPD Threads
--------- ----- --- -------
cinderella 16,983 60.26 49
sschiffman 16,079 17.31 233
JaneEyre 11,160 26.00 11
tardistraveler 11,159 12.21 119
dancesw/purple 10,667 11.51 279
Earl Grey 10,543 7.96 179
Martin Riley 9,239 9.03 65
paulovajao 6,268 18.17 27
Flo 6,151 5.17 56
muscla_1 6,089 11.78 51

Now that's interesting, isn't it?

She said "Listen baby, just watch my post count climb!
I'm been all around the chatroom, but I'm not wastin' no more time."
He said "call tech support, your PC's gonna crash."
"Techie's on the phone, your operating system's smashed."

My good Yes friends:

I can honestly tell yolu all that, in my years here, I have never been disgusted or offended by a post here. Some of them have been awfully "Close to the Edge," but there are lots of personalities with lots of opinions.

This being my 3 year anniversary here, I must say that I am blessed to have stumbled upon this site in March of 2002, and have been honored to make the acquaitance of several of you on this site, and am hopeful to meeting many, many more of you in the days, months and years to come....

Why did I post this in this thread? Beacuse I had no place else to put it.

So there.

Alan

p.s. - Tim, can we put that to the original Eagles track?

I talk with my fingers and my post count's the result.
It wasn't planned. It just comes out that way, the same as it does in real life. I don't try to post a lot, I don't try not to post. That would be stupid.
It is what it is, and that's all that it is and that's me. :D

Actually I'm very proud of my post count. It proves how much I enjoy the site and talking with everyone. If you have to work hard at lowering your post count, just quit. No one's breaking your arm to come here. If you're ashamed of it that's your problem. If people stop posting there will no longer be a Yesfans.

Sheerah
03-04-2005, 11:52 AM
You should be proud of your post count Cindy. You've worked very hard to bring it up to where it is. So many people here really love you. You shouldn't apologize for your high numbers. Of course, that is the pot calling the kettle black, as I have no reason to apologize for my numbers either.

I post on this site a few times a day. I have more important things to do in life than spend a majority of my day on Yesfans. Although this site is an important part of my life, I have other more important things to do too.
That being said I also would also never use this forum or any other to intentionally dis, hurt or otherwise put someone down.
If that is what we're headed for and you know who you are. I would much rather go to CNN.COm and see what is happening in the real world!

Post counts are irrelevant to me, and do absolutely nothing to tell me the tale of someone's character, and/or whether or not I'd like to have lunch with them. If someone has a high post count, here is what it means to me: They like to post here often. That's it. That being said, if someone gets a lot of pleasure out of posting here frequently, who are we to pass judgment? Imagining that someone who posts a lot here is disconnected from "the real world" is presumptuous - unless you happen to be close to this person off of this website and therefore know a bit more about his or her life. Otherwise, we really have no idea.

People are overly interested in "stats", I think. What really matters aren't numbers - what matters is people.

It's the last of those 3 numbers which astounds me. Now, it's 5,184. In one week, for a band of fifty-somethings that seldom puts out new material, Yesfans got 9 new members.

That, to me shows two things:

1. The attraction of Yes, and,
2. The quality of Yesfans.com.

Good job, Tim and the mods. You should be very proud.
