So today I copied the poems from the first poetry thread.

If you all are so inspired, it's a magnificent thread with the most amazing poetry. I'd love to see some of you read through it. It's also a historical document of sorts for many of our fellow members.

If you all are so inspired, here is the URL

Ode To A Stranger

I thought I should like to compose some prose,
For I am surprised at my own surprise.

An unusual man shortly ago I did meet.
He's sweet and funny and shy.

His lips kiss like poetry,
and his tongue melts my mouth.
His dress imprints uniqueness.
He presents a very nice package.

My surprise comes from my interest.
For he has me intrigued.
I didn't think I'd take him seriously,
This young, friendly man.
This man with beautiful brown eyes.

But he has caught my attention,
And has my curiousity picqued.
I look forward to more,
As I begin to unwrap this package.

Isn't this nice to have met such a refreshing
person?

Isn't this nice that someone has me smiling on the
inside again?

An Ode to All of You

I know them only on virtual paper.
Some by a name,
some by a moniker.

They write of their lives,
with their hearts,
with their souls.

They write of love, pain, passion and nature.
They write of friends, lovers, foes, and leaves.
They streak the ether with passioned words of swirling color.

I discover a little more each day,
of these faceless friends,
of these people that I think of as my own virtual family.

I wish to know more.
They inspire me,
They console me,
They intrigue me,
They are always here,
Offering themselves to our world.

Thank you for all you share.

Slumber Parties.

To learn of her you would think
Wisdom
Maturity
Beauty
Grace.

Support

My darling friend, the bright star of my sky.
If I could mold the future,
If I could guide your heart,
You know for you I would give you peace.
I would give you the ability to see clearly,
Inside of yourself.
I would give you the ability to love with abandon.
I would point you in the mirror, with me by your side
And show you the person that you are within,
Show you the person that you refuse to see,
Show you the person that lifts up those around you,
Show you the hero that you are to those who love you.

If you would take from me my gifts,
If you would allow yourself to accept my goodness,
If you would believe that you deserve happiness,
You would feel how happiness comes from many sources.
You would be pleased to be showered with love and happiness,
Because this is what humans need, and it is to which all are entitled.
You could allow yourself my pleasure,
Using it as your support and foundation to grow your own happiness from within,
A mutual edification, friend loving friend, lover nurturing lover,
To become the best each can be.

For it is often the strength of others that feeds the strengths of ourselves.
For it is not uncommon to define ourselves by those who surround us.
For it is the love of others that often allow us to love ourselves.

You are loved,
By me,
By many,
By those who want to share their lives with you.
Feel honored, for you have the gift of others hearts.
It is to be treasured and honored,
For when we love one another, we are most complete within ourselves.

No kiss so soft
your voice has been,
my feather bed
on the night of the storm.

Ill Fated

I miss my friend;
As he goes off to fight his wars and slay his dragons, as they
peer at him behind dark corners. And the battle that ensues
within him.

I miss my lover;
As he lays alone in the darkness, restless from his isolation,
as those he loves remain near and never farther. And his skin
yearns for a loving touch.

I miss my soulmate;
As he searches out his destiny and seeks his peace and settles
his torn heart. As he reaches into his soul to learn his answers.

I miss my future;
As I plan and imagine a life of love and laughter, and the bonds
of the utmost kind. For if he returns, it lies with him.

Natural Disaster

His soul lay naked on the ground.
Raw from exposure,
numb from the eternal pounding elements.

The weather never changes,
only the name of the storm.

One should not venture to such unknown places, uninvited.
One should guard himself with opaque veils.

Life Cycles

The force shook the heavens
And the Earth to its core.
The winds
The chaos
The percolating violence of the cycle creating its next phase.

And so the tiny seedling shakes off its hull,
In the calm
In the glorious light
And emerges with confidence and hesitation
And then confidence.
And a flower is born.

And so I still create
With struggle
With resolve
With unending hope.
And I know my roots will secure me as I bask in the calm
Of the storm I have weathered
To be here now with you.

Crumble

How I fall like a little girl.
Crying for a band aid to fix my scraped knee.
A proud woman.
A confident woman.
a shell
a mask
a cloak

My heart an origami sculpture.
Appearing strong at the hard angles.
assuming form
assuming structure
assuming facade
Dip me in bronze and harden my soul.
a wish
a desire
a futility

For The Artists

I shake my head in disbelief
And my eyes open wider to take in the wonder.
My heart now sings and my soul laughs heartily.

You who share my heart.
You who share my dreams.
Thank you for making my world shine.

Player of Fortune

I've known her to turn her
rusty
jagged
knife
into the tender small of my back

"and now you wring my very soul" you
cruel
vitriolic
gambler of fortunes

Reducing me to my knees as I watch
the dreams of those around me
reach fruition

She pays me back for ill intended deeds
of another life my present
does not know

You know my desire
and these are
flimsy
substitutions

I would do well in my dream
roll me no more
on the craps table

Allow me to be whom I should.

Daddy’s Little Girl

He heard the sobs through her bedroom door.
The pillow couldn't absorb the sounds of the pain
that poured from her body, from her very soul.

"Sweetheart, what's the matter?" her father emplored,
with the kindest voice she has ever heard from him.

As much as she wanted to share her pain,
her pride wouldn't allow it.
Her humility squelched her voice.

"Tell me what's wrong, Darling."
"Did someone hurt you?"
All she could manage as a reply were her tears.
All she could manage was breath gasping cries.

Daddy's little girl had her first broken heart.

Size Matters

The soul
The heart
The mind
Perhaps defineable by boundaries
Yet when they fuse
are capable of creating vast expanses of love and art
That of which boggles my mind
I feel dwarfed
Miniaturized, hanging by a mere thread of humility

And yet, my mind, ears and eyes widen to absorb the creativity
the art
the beauty
the love

I drink it in
I am fed by you
You quench me

We are Yes fans
We don't concern ourselves with boundaries
Straining and breaking out beyond the lines
Born to grow
to create
to share

Far from one another
yet never closer
Our community
Ever growing
Always creating, always expanding

Weaving our individual commonality
Across oceans, mountains, religion, race
As we grow, we come together
We are after all
A very intimate community

It's overwhelming, really.

Nature’s Bath

And so they come, as quick as the storm in summer
the rush of feelings like the violent winds created by the inversion.
The storm builds, the electricity lays thick in the air
until the skies yield to the mounting pressure
and the deluge rushes down to create the torrent.
And as is the way, the torrent yields to calm
and the air is sweet
and the winds turn to welcoming breeze
and all becomes right again.
As it will.
As it will.

For The Astral Travelers

With pride and awe they persued their dreams.
A mission of hope and grander schemes.
They watch the Earth grow small and so they ponder.
Why so much discourse, on that tiny speck of wonder.

About their business of science and experimentation.
While knowing they are being supported by so many nations.
They show the world we are in this together.
We can live in close quarters and disagree almost never.

And with a sense of accomplishment and the deepest of pride.
They return to their Home under the world's watchful eye.
And all of the dreaming, grueling preperation and training.
Took them to where they wanted to be, with no doubt remaining.

And now we mourn for the loss of this brave NASA crew.
They wouldn't have done it differently, if even they knew,
Of their ill fated end, on this day gone so wrong.
For they died bravely, together, living out the dream they had for so long.

The Gaps

My heart skipping miles
as if they were stones,
Minimizing the chasm
from here to home.

The mind more accomplished
than any conveyor.
You are so often constant.
An oddly tangible player.

Spinning your image
from candy floss and thread;
How much of it fairydust?
How much harm where I tread?

I turn down the volume
in my heart and my head;
Ignoring the vastness
of this heart shaped bed.

And so this day passes,
then another, then more.
As the days plod their course
Towards a chance to explore.

Getting Lost

In the midst of my season,
I know what to do.

These shoes are worn.
They know the curves of this lane.

My moral compass always points towards
magnetic heart-north.
It will not allow me to get lost;
But only if I remember to seek its counsel.

Impromptu

My friends,
You writers of dream, wit and life.
How I look forward to your art and how it mixes with my blood.
Perhaps a sonnet
or a ballad
or a quip
or a rhyme.
Pantameter honored, your diction set to time.

So in touch with your spirit,
the world cycles and the songs.
The delight that abounds as I read your legacy.
Your vision and
Your soul and
Your heart.
You have earned your place above and apart.

Ode to Orbs

How many round things can you name?
What do you call them?
Do you call them balls?
Do you call them orbs?
Do you call them grapes or lemons or avocados or onions?

How many squirty things can you name?
And is squirt defined by distance, velocity or consistency?
And if you combine these two concepts, the round things and the wet things, what do you have?
Oranges or eyeballs or grapefruits or grapes?
Does it matter what we call it?
Isn't all that matters is that we all laugh and share the joke?

The Invisible Caress

The shadows fell from their careless shelf
Covering the darkness with comforting glow.
The velvet hush laid calm to me,
While peace lilted down in a delicate shower like snowflakes or angels or feathers.

I think your heart sings songs in time with my tune
While your name serves as lyric to the ballad of my heart.

And a smile finds its way in through my skin,
As it weaves silken gold around my heart;
My heart that echoed so, like a clay drum or a hallway or a canyon.

I reach for your hand and I find it there,
Reaching for mine in return.

I begin to learn the steps of your gracious dance,
Admiring your stride and your purpose of heart.
Never more shared a spirit or a breath of air or an unspoken soul whisper.

Gibralter

When your demons are chasing you -
I'll be your rock.

When darkness is encasing you -
I'll be your rock.

When all that you know spins wild on shaky ground,
When you search for solice and comfort, but it's nowhere to be found,
When you look for a friend, and none seem to be near,
Know that you have found your rock.
I am standing right here.

Love Thy Friend, Love Thyself

My friend told me that she cried today.
That her charmed little life ain't going her way.
That once again the floor dropped from under.
Her illusion of security was a misguided blunder.

I don't enjoy seeing my friend in this way.
She once appeared a pillar of strength,
not permitting many things from spoiling her day.

But there she stands, a bit frightened and lonely.
Seeking a shoulder to lean on; if she only remembered how.
If only.

Solving her problems by herself, all of these years.
While exuding strength and independence.
She had a way of confronting her fears.

Perhaps I can help her to her feet once again.
I think she could use a hug and a drink.
I think she could use a good friend.

Enrapture

Come dance with me under the sky
of shooting stars and its magic.
With the music of guitars and sweet lyric
that make my heart swirl and dance.
Come laugh with me as this night
shares its balmy caress across our skin.

All the laughter from our hearts
as I twirl and twirl under the lanterns
and my dress spirals and lifts
as it catches the breeze of our intoxication,
and the wine sweetens our lips
as we kiss
and drink in each others joy.

Support

When the storms subside and the dust settles,
When electricity discharges from the air,
When composure reigns over chaos,
When the birds peek out and cock their heads towards the sun,
When my taking can turn to giving,
When my stream of tears trickles arid,
When I am able to reignite my flame,
When I can once again breathe and love and laugh,
I will turn and look at you, eye to eye to eye to eye,
and bow my head in greatful acknowledgement,
and bless the sun and the moon and the trillion stars of the sky,
for this gift of love and friendship and support.

As Winter Sets In

Your sun hasn't shone in my sky these last days.
The warmth of your heart no longer seeks mine.
My world has grown a little smaller
Since the waves of ambivalence have eroded my shores.

I walk down these stainless steel corridors of my soul
Which ring with the echoes of my steps, alone.
And the gray cold ices my veins.

I yearn for the green that you spring upon my hills.
I listen for the trickle of your brook through my valley.

Looking upward I squint at the dimness.
Waiting for the sunrise of your smile to lighten this horizon.

The Other Kind of Death

He hit me hard.
He hit me cruelly.
With a strike that stings like no other.
For only words can cause
the deepest unhealing wounds.

Without thought and without compassion.
The knife he dug in and twisted with passion.

My dreams, they fell from their tenuous shelf.
As he dared to satisfy only himself.

Now I hang my heart with deepest sorrow,
On the falling hook of an empty tomorrow.
Tomorrow.
A dreamless day.

More Than Cyberfriends

When things get overwhelming,
as we know they can be.
When confusion and illusion
weigh down upon me.
When days seem so lonely and
far till we meet,
When I yearn for some love,
and warmth from friends sweet,
When I need a true friend,
I just reach out my hand,
And you always reach back,
my fellow Yesfan.

Time is Time

and on that note, she laid her head down on the soft pillow of curls,
deep breath out and in and one more deep breath out

all in good time

The Eternity

Feather flight settles now
upon the strings
you played my heart.

It comes and goes
in hummingbird fashion
Once mighty, now
sometimes still.

Your lofty height
viewing the scene, afar
artificially removed
Opting to remain there.

Just another freaking day

The same old crap gets old you know.
Prodding onward, brave face in tow.
To work to sleep then back again.
This monotony is wearing thin.
I chase the sparks like fireflies.
So bright for a moment, and then it dies.
And trudge and trudge and trudge some more.
This colorless palette has proven a bore.

For Those Who Share

I read it all today.
You planted the seeds. I saw that.
Each one of them, so deliberately
in random rows.

Some provided the showers, some provided the light.
Some infused life blood and oxygen here.
Some chose to merely look on
with a feigned disinterest and acute curiousity.

Not much time passed, then.
And the seeds took hold. I saw that.
And the garden was tended, so the more it grew;
these fruits or hearts, soon to be.

And together you created bounty.
And together you sang the song.
And together you danced
in your garden.
Your Eden of love, pain and soul.

Night Flight

On silent wings you carry my heart
to beautiful vistas that set us apart
from our more common selves here,
mundane, fleeting days;
Where our dreams have been smashed
by indifferent breaking waves,
where our daily desires seem never to be found,
Yet you've carried me here now
to our fertile sacred ground.

Oh, and BTW, my apologies for combining all of these poems into one post.
But that's how I had them on my Word document.

There are some poems, that without the explanantion, don't make much sense. Some are just goofy. But there are one or two gems in there. Maybe I should highlight those or something.

Well, I hope you don't mind wading through the crap trying to find the gems.
