There are usually a lot of Yes boots on ebay. There is some guy from the UK (no offense to our English members) that often has a dozen or two listed. He changes his nick everytime he lists some in case ebay catches them.

Did you see the guy selling bootleg homemade dvd's of the Union laserdisc?

There's always boots on e-bay...Check the Beatles, Yes, The Who, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and just about any band you can think of. This is hardly new. In a perfect world, such sought after boots would be shared freely between fans, perhaps through tape trading. But I admit, if there was a boot of one of the Yes shows I was at, and I couldn't get one through trading, I would buy it.

yes dave
this guy is from the UK and has absolutely no feedback
so most likely the same guy you mention

dee

i-and-i there are plenty of trading groups so no one ever has to buy one and make some guy rich

Like I said...If I couldn't get one through trading.

But there are always certain recordings that don't seem to be in circulation...If it's a recording I simply can't locate by free trading, there's no way I'm going to pass up the opportunity to buy it. But on the few occasions I've purchased bootlegs, I've always made severval duplicates to pass along freely to others.

I started collecting Beatles outtakes in the 1980's, and at the time the boots were still exclusively on vinyl. The only real free tape trading available was between Dead Heads. If any other trading was going on, I didn't know where to find them. This was before the internet, remember.

Bootleggers - especially those who charge very high prices - are generally taking advantage of the fans as well as the artists. But does it make them bad people? I'm sure some of them are quite awful people, but bootlegging is harmless compared to a lot of other activities humans engage in.

The bootlegger makes a big profit from music without paying the musicians, the songwriters, or any licensing fees. But does it hurt the artists? The most bootlegged artists seem to be The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin. Paul McCartney will still be a multi-millionaire after I buy a boot of the 1993 Giants Stadium show I was at. If I find one, I want it. If I need to buy it, I suppose I'll have to. None of the bootlegs I've ever bought have kept me from buying the artists' official releases.

There are many occasions in life when we have to pay someone undeserving for something we want or need. I cringe when I think of some of the low life characters I helped to make rich when I was still into my drugs.

Ah, well. What can ya do?.....

i-and-i, before you ever spend any money of a Yes boot ever again...post your request in the trade section. I know there are several people on this forum, including myself, who have a large collection. There is a good chance one of us can help you out.

Obviously, I have a strong opinions against bootleggers. Granted, they won't keep you from buying all the official releases, why pay for something you can get for next to nothing, or even free.

It's not too late. I haven't bought a bootleg since the vinyl days.
Thanks to the internet I may never have to. I prefer free trading over cash any day. Now if only my ex didn't ruin my collection of tapes I'd have something to trade with.

most traders will trade for blanks and postage as well
including myself as i am sure dave as well

you don't always need something to trade in order to trade

most are very friendly and willing to help others

dee

i also have strong feelings on bootleggers, i have a nice size collection, if i sold it i could make quite a bit of money, but i chose not to
why, i got it for free, and its not mine to sell and make money on

I'm sure there's alot of A-holes out there who bootleg stuff and capitolize on it. I myself don't consider myself a bootlegger but do record shows for my own listening pleasure and have never, ever sold a copy to anyone for profit. If someone I know will enjoy the music as much as I do then they are welcome to it as long as they don't abuse the privelege of having it. Very rarely do I even allow stuff into others hands unless I feel it's safe there. To those who give us archivists a bad name, your Karmas gonna get you.
And Dee, I made the mistake of buying one of those bootleg OYE programs from the UK. That's so uncool of whoever the A-hole is.
It's no wonder that people question whether or not I have the genuine article when I've posted to trade band swag. There are enough people out there who would copy stuff and call it genuine. I am not one of those, Thank God!
Buyer's beware!
