I didn't know Alan played percussion on this cd?! I was just listening to this cd and browsing the liner notes....there was Alan White in the drum credits!
So Lennon wasn't the only beatle he played with......

There is much Mr. White has been a part of. Hell, he even signed on for a stint with Ginger Baker's personal military at one time. ; )

Its most likely he played with Ringo too on either All Things Must Pass or Imagine - possibly the latter album where he played vibes on at least one track

So then. What's up with Sir Macca?
'C'mon Paul, what are ya, dead or sumping?! Get on the stick, and hire Alan for your next record! It'll be a hit, I swear!' :ele:
Alan IS a world wonder. The perfect choice for Phil Specter's 'Wall Of Sound' (Specter produced both 'All Things Must Pass' and 'Imagine')...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My Favorite Alan White/Lennon collaboration:
There's an 'unofficial' extended version of Lennon's 'How Do You Sleep' which veers off into a firey jam session...
Alan plays like it's the end of all worlds...
Sharp combative snares and traps, precise and cutting as a barrage of smart-missles. The song is driven, and White is at the wheel.
After 15 minutes of fire, John sneers a sharp obscenity [Sorry, can't tell you, but it rhymes with 'grunt'] concerning the Beatley Bassplayer the track was aimed at...
...Alan is the last to drop from the jam, steering this bit of artful vitriol deep into the realm of rock and roll legend.
How appropriate is that? Alan White jams with Lennon, and the song becomes an epic.
Both Alan and John played on My Sweet Lord. John was uncredited, at his request. You can hear Alan all over ATMP.
I once heard the solo album by Free guitarist Paul Kossoff (the album was backstreet crawler) and the drummer on that was Alan!
I thought it was funny. John said he warned George that "My Sweet Lord" had a fimiliar ring to it. Later George was told what John had said. George smiled and said, "I don't remember John saying that !" ;)
My guess is that George was easy to work with. Alan also said he had a wonderful time working with John.
That's good to hear, since John was known to turn to a studio drummer and say, "Cut out all that fancy sh_t, and play like Ringo !"
New friend of mine , born and left Liverpool 1962 and Candian now, had a chance to jam with Alan years ago, but Martyn's bandleader made them leave before it could happen.
Marty is a fabulous bassist, guuitarist/singer and he loves Gentle Giant!
Alan has been everywhere, no?
My favourite story of Alan working with John Lennon was the recording of imagine at John's house in Ascot. There was some building work going on and they couldn't watch the TV downstairs because of it. So they all went upstairs and watched the TV in John and Yoko's bedroom. Alan sat there and thought "I can't believe this. I'm actually sat on John Lennon's bed watching the TV !".
Funnily enough the Tittenhurst Park estate is on the other side of the road to the Virginia Waters house that Mr Squire used to live in (pictured on FOOW).
Yeppers---Alan is all over All Things Must Pass..not to mention John's Imagine album.
And I do believe that's him on Instant Karma.
Alan also plays drums on the first two albums by Gary Wright. The Pre 'Dream Weaver' stuff....George Harrison is also on the second of those two records, so I wonder whom knew whom? Did George know Gary and suggest Alan? Hmmmm.....
Another famous drummer who was part of the All Things Must Pass sessions, but went uncredited (and to this day it is questionable whether or not his contributions got cut)--is a young Phil Collins.
Gary Wright opened for Yes (along with Peter Frampton and the Pousette-Dart Band) at that monster JFK Stadium show in Philly during the '76 "solo" tour. I think he did most of the gigs on that our.
He was quite good actually...this was the "Dream Weaver" album.
I remember the following year JFK had another huge concert with Peter Framptom headlining and Lynerd Skynerd the first act or opening act.Lynerd Skynerd blew the house away(70000 people) and when Frampton came out almost everyone had left(maybe 3000 people remained.) Never seen anything like it. The remaining 3000 booed Frampton during every song.Philly at its finest.
I recall seeing somewhere later on that tour, Boise Idaho I think, Skynryd rejoined the Yes/Frampton/Wright bill. So apparently Skynryd was a supporting act for Yes.
Umm. No. That's incorrect. Alan did say Lennon performed on a song uncredited on ATMP, but it wasn't My Sweet Lord. It was Dylan's If Not For You. But that's unconfirmed. The credits for My Sweet Lord are:
George Harrison: Slide Guitar, Lead & Backing vocals
Eric Clapton: Guitar
Billy Preston: Piano
Klaus Voormann: Bass
Gary Wright: Electric Piano
Badfinger: Acoustic guitars
Ringo Starr: Drums
Jim Gordon: Drums
Mike Gibbins: Tambourine
John Barham: String Arrangement
The songs Alan actually played on, which he barely mentions in favour of Lennon's work are:
I'd Have You Anytime (Harrison - Dylan)
If Not For You (Dylan)
Behind That Locked Door (Harrison)
The Ballad Of Sir Frankie Crisp {Let It Roll} (Harrison)
Gary Wright and Alan White both play on All Things Must Pass sessions, so it's likely they would have met there.
And basically from the ATMP recording sessions, is where Derek & The Dominoes formed. Whitlock, Clapton, Radle and Gordon respectively.
To further up that, its mainly Ringo Starr and Jim Gordon you're hearing on that album. Not Alan. Sorry.
