I finally got a copy of Fish out of Water on CD this past weekend, and am still blown away by this song. Why oh why can't Yes work up a version of this?

Listen to the complexity of the keys on Silently Falling, prefarably after about 2:36. A hammond groove, a hammond solo, a piano groove, synthesizer washes, and a synth solo!
I think you can tell from my sig line how I feel about this song!

Don't believe in miracles, but I do believe in love.
I just love that line...

Our little band project has been working on this one since we got started. This song in particular was the catylist I used to get our keyboard player to start working with me again after many years of musical dormancy.
He has a real nice Korg Trition 88 note sound monster but banging out the chords and keeping the Hammond solo going in this song is a workout! He has it sounding pretty good but there is still some bells & whistles missing. You almost have to have two keyboardists on this one. It is one of the hardest pieces he has to master! Moraz was great! Now I sure love Rick's work but I would have liked to have seen what Patrick could have done with more time in YES, Relayer was fantastic.
Our drummer loves Brufords stuff so he's just nutz about this song. I have the privilage of trying to sing and play the Bass! We are getting there My Singing isactually pretty :music-smi good and playing is good/great at times but putting them both together is still tough for me.
Man I sure wish I had the opportunity to have seen Chris & Bill & Pat do this stuff live back then!........... Probably never will now?
It is truly amazing just how good these songs still sound in this era.
Once again I say "You the Man" Chris!

Truly an amazing album from start to finish. By far the best solo album release by any member of the band. How say you Yes Fans?

Like I said, the best Yes album that wasn't released as a Yes album.
It's time for Chris to do another one.

Wow!! Am I glad this thread was started. I've had this album on vinyl since the original release. I loved it but it was basically forgotten. I knew I'd never bought it on CD so I asked my wife if she had. (Blended households, blended music collections.) She responded, "I think so."
She got down on her hands and knees thumbing through the bottom shelf of one of the CD cabinets (over 600 discs). As everything is alphabetical, by artist...and solo works by members of the groups are lumped with the group albums, "Chris Squire" works are at the tail end of YES. Lo and behold...she pulled it out and handed it to me.
I've been listening to it, and remembering how good it is, ever since.
I've never discounted Chris' vocal abilities, and his harmonies always amaze me, but this album really showcases his voice. He has an incredible vocal talent that, if you are not specifically listening for it, can sometimes be hidden in YES' complex music.
One more thing to point out, as I am probably the most devout Moody Blues fan on this board, I have to mention how much the intro to "Silently Falling" sounds like the intro to many of the Moodies more symphonic tunes with Ray Thomas on the flute. It's stunningly beautiful.
Once again, thanks for the thread.

Gawdalmighty, I just did some serious air bass to this song. I would have to put FOoW and OoS in a dead heat as the best Yes albums which never came out under the Yes name. However, the songs on FOoW can be played by the band live. Hint, hint...come on! It's embarrassing to have such a wealth of material which the band will not touch!
Le Fish definitely needs to travel along the solo path once again.

It's also some of Moraz's best work.

I agree. In many ways, he was the most adaptable of all of the various keyboardists they had during their "classic" period. As much as I like Wakeman and GftO, I wish that there had been at least one more album with Moraz at the keyboard position.

I may be mistaken but I think Mr. Moraz had a lot more to do with GFTO than we all know? I think there was some bad feelings about Pat's contribution to this album project (in progress at the time he seperated from YES in 76-77 era...???) and his contribution going unmentioned in the credits! And yeah I am a Real Wakeman Fan! But after the work P. M. did on FooW and Relayer Pat really was a lucky find for the band when Rick left! They could not have done better! And I still wonder what else he would have contributed had he stayed.
