Hey all, I'm new to this forum. Looks like a cool place though. Actually, its exactly the same layout as the eBassist forums, so I'm getting a sense of deja vu here!

Where to begin! I don't know.

I guess how I got into Yes. Years ago, my best friend put on a CD. Greatest 70s hits or somesuch. Anyway, one of the songs was "Roundabout." I had recently gotten into the Chili Peppers, and liked the bass playing. A lot. I liked the song. A lot. For a long time, that was what I knew about Yes. Then, I started hearing about how great Chris Squire was, and decided to look a little deeper. Eventually, I picked up a copy of Close to the Edge, the only album I could find locally. To put it simply: I was hooked.

Now, I have the Yes Album, Fragile, Close to the Edge, Relayer, the 35th Anniversary collection, and got a deal on Ebay for 12 CDs containing pretty much all of their music from Yes to Talk, 16 albums (two per CD on several). I've got Union on right now.

Yes has changed me. It isn't depressing music. It isn't sad or down. Yes music is uplifting. They are without a doubt my favorite band right now. I had the chance to see them live a few months ago, and they were amazing! I've seen the Flecktones, Rush, dozens of other groups, and Dream Theater opened, but Yes was just bigger, better than all that.

I play bass. I'm a 19 year old student in Northwest Nebraska. I hope that I can contribute some good information to this forum!

If anyone is interested, especially bassists, take a look at www.ebassist.com. Lots of Yes fans there, too, but with more emphasis on the bass than on the other musicians. The forum even looks the same!

Welcome! That's a nice intro. I've been a fan since '71 and love 'em as much as ever. Have been to 27 shows including a few solos. Read the threads- so much to discover here. I am a Tales nut!

Welcome to yesfans!

When you get your CDs, pay particular attention to "Awaken" on "Going For The One." (GFTO in yes-ese).

As well as "Tales from Topographic Oceans" (a/k/a TFTO).

Another must, if you don't already have it, is Chris Squire's solo album "Fish Out of Water," especially if you're a bass fan. It's done almost completely without guitar, with the bass taking the lead, and densely layered keys and orchestration. Gorgeous and phat and phunky all at the same time.

I got the CDs yesterday, have been listening to them a lot.

I need to find Chris's solo album, I mean you can never have too much Yes, right? Even if its only 1/5 (or 1/14) of Yes.

I'm already familiar with TFTO/GFTO/CTTE and other abbreviations, but thanks a lot! And I will be posting often, I assure you. I'm a member of 7 forums now!
