- Yes has never released more than two studio albums back-to-back with the same lineup.
- The number of musicians are usually 5, with the exception of ABWH (4), Magnification (4), The Ladder (6) and Union (8).
- Four ex-members have appeared on only one album: Patrick Moraz, Trevor Horn, Geoff Downes and Igor Khoroshev.
- Two ex-members have appeared twice: Peter Banks and Billy Sherwood.

- The most productive lineup is Squire-Anderson-Howe-Wakeman-White with 4 albums (TFTO, GFTO, Tormato, Keystudio).
- The Squire-Anderson-Kaye-White-Rabin lineup produced 3 albums (90125, BG, Talk).
- The Squire-Anderson-Bruford-Kaye-Banks lineup (Yes, TAAW) and the Squire-Anderson-Bruford-Howe-Wakeman (Fragile, CTTE) tie in with 2 albums each.

Umgy - Igor may not have been officially a member of Yes on OYE but he was certainly on the album!

Yes Brian you're right. I only listed the official members, because it could get confusing otherwise. For example, Billy was in Union too, and then there's Tony Levin, and who knows maybe Trevor Horn played some instrument too in 90125.

Horn sings and plays some keys on 90125.

- Members of Yes have appeared together outside of the band, for example Chris and Billy in Conspiracy; or Chris and Alan in Rick's "Criminal Record"; or Trevor Horn and Geoff Downes in Buggles of course. But Bill Bruford and Patrick Moraz remain unique as having never been in Yes at the same time, yet working together for two albums, "F l a g s" and "Music For Piano And Drums".

Why do you thing FOOW was so amazing?
Not only did Chris show an inspired genius, but he also got the best musicians to articulate his vision.
No Rick noodling, no Jon pseudo-mystic rambling, just good tunes.
Since he didn't know what to do with the guitar parts, he played bass as a lead instrument and allowed the keyboards to double up. Much as I worship at the altar of Steve Howe ("Relayer?"), Chris showed true brilliance at making a record where any guitar would have been superfluous.
How many modern albums made in the rock idiom can so completely make THAT claim?
It's the tightest Yes album that wasn't a yes album, ever.
The next time I'm handed a phone while completely blotto at a LL party and told "Hey, it's CHRIS!" I hope I can articulate what I just said.
Because I want him to do it again.

Peter Banks and Rick Wakeman appear on "Jabberwocky" by Oliver Wakeman & Clive Nolan, althouh Rick only does the narration.

In terms of released stuff, there's also Downes and Sherwood on Asia's Silent Nation and forthcoming The Wall tribute. Unreleased, there's Downes and Banks in '90s sessions, and Downes/Howe and Rabin in early Asia line-up.

Sherwood is not and was not an official member of Asia, but worked with Downes and John Payne on early writing sessions for Silent Nation. He's a co-writer on 2 tracks.
As for Rabin, during Asia's genesis, they considered a 5-man line-up. Of the people considered for this extra slot in the band, Rabin appears to have come closest. There are 2 demos in trading circles of Rabin performing with the band. Asia decided to be a quartet and Rabin decided he'd rather work with Squire/White on what he saw as less mainstream music.

We Could also mention Geoff Downes and Igor Khoroshev on the excellent ELP tribute album "Encores, Legends and Paradox" plus the obvious "Tales from Yesterday" Yes Tribute album including Moraz, Howe, Banks, Sherwood and Adam Wakeman. Also Rabin guesting on Wakeman's "Return to the Centre of the Earth" and Squire guesting on Sherwood's World Trade album "Euphoria".

Agreed, agreed, agreed. Fish Out of Water is my favourite Yes album. I mean Squire album. I mean . . .
Hands down, that is a good Yes album regardless.

Pardon my ignorance. Was Steve Vai ever involved with Yes as a session musician, or on tour? Some of his guitar work could have come straight off The Ladder or Keys to Ascension. Thanks.

Rick Wakeman shared a stage with Steve Vai to play (amongst other things) For the Love of God in Barcelona '92 at the Expo Guitar show. Other than that, no.
