stumbled across this site by accident while doing a yes web search. Have had trouble with logins since, so here is my introduction.
Been into Yes a long time. Someone played me Close to the Edge when I was about 14 (now 39) and I was blown away by it. Luckily I currently find myself working with two other people into prog, so now I have someone to talk to who doesn’t think I’m mad or a terrible snob about it (but it IS the highest form of music), and now I’ve found this site. Sometimes I like Yes music because following every line and nuance going on seems to completely take up my thinking capacity, sometimes because it allows my mind to empty and go to extraordinary places.
I am also in love with most of Rick’s music, for similar reasons, and I have to confess to not hearing much of the other member’s solo work, though I would imagine I would go a bundle for Jon’s. My partner tolerates Yes and quite likes Rick (I tolerate Tori Amos in return). She loves Ozzy Osbourne, so appearances by him have endeared her to Rick.
I’m into IT, tough working in it kind of destroys the rebel appeal of it, and into spiritual stuff, though no too faye (I hope). Other musical likes are Janis Joplin, more for the woman than the music, though it is great, I like some Emerson Lake and Palmer, a lot of grunge and plenty of Ozzy. I like to think there is no music that I can’t stand – with the possible exception of rap as I have yet to hear any that really grabs me. Got quite into progressive trance recently.
I have written some prog of my own, but not for a while. My plan for 2005 is to get a studio back and do some more.
Anyway, can’t think of anything else to write, a permanent hippy I hope to never change. :D
