My older brother had me sit down and he placed the head-phones on my head and that was when I knew Yes was the best band that ever lived. The first song I heard was Close To The Edge and I was swept away by both the music and Jon's voice. This was back in the 70's and I've been a fan ever since.

close to the edge was mine. i had fragile on a crappy cassette version, and i liked it but i wasn't like "bow wow". i bought close to the edge on a whim, my first day at a new college, in a sam goody, and listened to it on cheap headphones on the way up to my uncle's cabin, with my parents. i was hooked.

Must be something about older brothers and CTTE! I was 12 and was already listening to my dad's yes albums: he had yes, time and a word, fragile, and the yes album. I liked yes, but when my brother made me sit back in the bean bag chair, put a huge speaker on either side of me, and put CTTE on...It was all over. He left the arm of the turntable up, so that I was 'forced' to listen to it over and over...it is still my favorite album.

I still haven't picken up Yessongs (i know, i know). The price at my local cd store is ridiculous, but if i can persuade my parents to letting me stop by, im going into a town where they have it on vinyl for 3 bucks. i only hope it's still there.

Tell your parents your future depends on it. Tell them 30 years from now you'll still be getting benefits from it. You'll still be playing it and learning about it.

I had the same sort of thing happen to me.

Long ago in a universe far, far away....

my girlfriend's brother had me sit down and he placed the headphones on my head. The first song I heard was Your Move and I was swept away.

My father bought me my records. He didn't like most of them, but he bought them. Actually he'd have liked to sailed them out of the window like frisbees.:lmao:

My parents were very happy I had headphones. :music-smi

Congrats Starship!

I first heard the likes of Yes via Relayer.
I then bought Fragile and loved it.
I then bought CTTE and it was all over for me!!!

Mine was also an older brother, but no headphones.

I was nine and the song was "Yours is No Disgrace," the week TYA came out.

The song was Homeworld for me and I knew this band was amazing. Little did I know the amazing music they had written in the seventies was even better.

Even though I already owned 90125, Fragile, Big Generator and Classic Yes (the year was 1988), it was the live "CTTE" on Yessongs that turned me into a lifelong diehard. For many months I alternated between the studio and live CTTE (and the GFTO album as well!) because both of them moved me in equally different but intense ways.
