While browsing the web I discovered there is a bootleg of The Lovemongers performing a cover of Jon & Vangelis's STATE OF INDEPENDENCE. The bootleg is called THEN & NOW, and it's appears to be a live recording.

Those who may not know, The Lovemongers features Ann & Nancy Wilson of Heart....

I suppose this may be worth checking out ?

I don't know about that, but I have a related topc. I'm wondering if anyone has any thoughts on which State of Independence is better--the version on Cairo or the one on Change We Must.

Any thoughts?

I liked the CHANGE WE MUST version more.

Can anyone remember Donna Summer doing a cover of State of Independence? I seem to remember it being quite good.

Yessiree, I think the Change We Must version is the better of the two

Don't remember Donna Summer version.

Ok, we have two who prefer the Change We Must version. Anyone else?

And how about the other two songs?

I remember the Donna Summer version well - it was released in 1981-2. I recall being shocked to hear a Jon Anderson song being covered by another artist. It was quite a disco hit of its day. I think much of her arrangement was little different to the J&V version.

Which all goes to beg the bigger question, apart from tribute albums, what other Yes and solo Yes songs have had cover versions? I can't think of too many that have charted. Can anyone else?

The ONLY cover of a Yes tune I own is Frank Zappa's instrumental OWNER OF A LONELY HEART.

What recording is that from, i-and-i?

I like the "Change We Must" versions of all the re-makes ; "Hearts" included.

I remember the Donna Summer version, it's actually not too bad but I must admit I can't remember Yes trcaks being covered by other artists.

Zappa has an instrumental version of OWNER OF A LONELY HEART on volume 3 of YOU CAN'T DO THAT ON STAGE ANYMORE. It occurs as the guitar solo of a song called BAMBOOZLED BY LOVE.
The first issue of the CD on Barking Pumpkin Records listed the track as BAMBOOZLED BY LOVE / OWNER OF A LONELY HEART. The currently available reissue on Ryko doesn't list OWNER , although it still appears on the CD and in the booklet liner notes.
I've read that this was done because Frank's son Dweezil loved OWNER OF A LONELY HEART, and played it on guitar often.

Hey i-and-i, thanks for the info. I have a friend who is a Zappa/Yes freak. I wonder if he knows about this one?

And Antioch, I agree with you regarding Hearts.

I also like the Change We Must versions of SoI, UtS and HH better than the original versions, although I heard the original versions first. Wonder how is the original version of the song "Change We Must", I have "Page of Life" but not the version that includes this song
