I finally broke down and bought the DVD-Audio version of Fragile.Let me tell you, 5.1 surround Yes is great! The mellotron in Heart of the Sunrise sounds so clear.South Side of the Sky has some great vocal pan tricks in the surround mix.
I can finally put to rest my crusty old original cd of Fragile....

I don't know if it's purist audiophile/stereophile "hi-fi" yet but 5.1 sure is fun! It makes my movies sound incredible and I'll take whatever I can get from 5.1 music discs. Check out the Zappa discs Halloween and Quaudiophiliac.
I've a killer system for stereo but 5.1 is my new toy...
I thought this was a disappointing DVD-A. Better use could have been made of the rear surrounds. It was mainly ambience and echo. I like aggressive surround mixes...what's the point of having rear speakers if you're not going to utilize them to the fullest.
I think Eddie Offord should have been involved with this project, personally.

The surround sound is quite immpressive on the Yes acoustic DVD. Also on Yesspeak.
I have Dolby 5.1 surround, with a "live" setting and it really brings it to life. On the acoustic DVD you could swear you were there!!
Ive always thought the high point on Fragile was "Long distance runaround" but Rounabout was quite a hit by Yes standards wasn't it?

Roundabout was the first major hit single for Yes, and I believe at the time it was the biggest hit single they, ELP, or King Crimson had had. But it isn't necessarily the best song on the album though it is quite good.

The best song on the album is probably HOTS or LDR.
personaly I like Mood for a day aswell though.

Hey Vic, I have the Fragile DVD-A yet have yet to find enough cash to get magnification.
How do you rate it? Just as good? Better? Surround used mainly for the orchestra?

hey vic, I did end up getting this (magnification DVD-A) (one copy left of it in a future shop in north york) and it's really great. I love the way they spread the orchestra and backing vocals around the room.
I'd say this surround sound thing should start catching on soon. This is the way music is meant to be heard! I just need to pick up a real DVD-A/SACD player soon! (been using my dvd player with 5.1 so far)

Fragile and Mag are great in DVD-A, it's a shame we don't have CTTE and Tales.

Two years ago we heard rumors of dvd-a's of Ctte and Relayer, was it? Nothing yet.
Magnification is probably the best sounding dvd-a I've heard. Blue Man Group's Audio, while not as good musically, will test your sound system.

TOO EXCITED!
The way Yes has been releasing things lately, I'm not going to wait up for anything.
