I don't own any Steve Howe solo albums (you guys can thrash me for that later), but would like to start purchsing them. What can you guys recommend as a good first album to get? I'd love to get something that's all his instrumentals, preferably all acoustic.
Any suggestions?

I agree about Natural Timbre, not only does it meet your requirements but it is, in my opinion, his best solo work :-)

Another Natural Timbre fan here. I love this album. If you love the acoustic side of Steve you have to purchase it. It is his best.

What is beginnings like? i saw it on vinyl the other day for a lot of money and couldn't spare it and it's really annoying me.

Um... This isn't going to do it justice, but Beginnings is "kinda like the second album only a little more off the wall" maybe? And they might not do it justice either but Amazon.com has Windows Media samples of all the songs from the CD and Real Player samples of most of them, I think.
To me at least, that would be a good recommendation because I really like Steve's second solo album. Also Turbulence. And Natural Timbre is really good also although it does make me feel just a little like I'm in a new age bookshop having an latte. :-)

Without a shadow of a doubt it has to be The Steve Howe Album. It starts with Pennants which is a fantastic Steve Howe rocking workout instrumental. It has the lovely Look Over Your Shoulder, Meadow Rag, Diary of a man Who Disappeared, Surface Tension and the two classical arranged pieces, plus All's a Chord which features endless numbers of guitars.
Steve sings only on All's a Chord, and the whole album is an absolute treat from start to finish.
Above all else, this is most definitely the one to have and shows a taste of what should have been Yes in 1979 instead of those awful, dreadfu, diabolical Paris session durges.
Buy it.

BEGINNINGS, hands down!

I would recommend both of the first ones (Beginnings and Steve Howe Album). Maybe because they were the first Howe albums I got - or maybe because they have the sound of the classic Yes albums (and of course you get Alan White, Pat Moraz and Bruford on them as well). Beginnings are a bit more rootsy to my ears ( maybe he wanted to investigate that side more as he was doing all those flashy things with Yes?). Steve Howe Album, to me, is Steve in a nutshell - the whole arsenal of guitars, steel guitar, Coral Electric Sitar etc. Listen to "AllŽs a chord" and youŽll see what I mean.

As a 100% solo album, my favourite is Turbulance, but as a group orientated solo project, The grand scheme of things does it for me, although i must admit, i stopped buying Howe's solo stuff after Not Necessarily acoustic.

Beginings... yeah maybe I really like Ram. The Steve Howe Album is great. I don't like Quantum Guitar that much, excepted Walk don't Run and Sleepwalk maybe. Ah! yes I got this live album Not necessarily Accoustic. Very good! I've liked the "Sorry but my guitar is... tired" lol :D

Another vote for Natural Timbre - if you're not a big fan of Steve's particular brand of vocals, and you like Steve's acoustic stuff then this has to be the choice - totally instrumental with a great version of To Be Over to boot.
Incidentally I only bought it because of recommendation on this forum - so well done you lot!
