All music has healing properties but YES music has some really special healing qualities. YES music stimulates my mind, body, soul and spirit -- sometimes individually but often all at once. As the complexities and intensities of the compositions modulate, there's something in my DNA that vibrates with joy.

YES music has many of these powers, depending on what songs you're listening to.

If I settle comfortably and listen to a Yes album, it can be like a spiritual journey (hey I'm speaking like Jon Anderson now - after reading what he said of his experience with Divine Mother !). It really expands my mind.

I find Jon's OLIAS OF SUNHILLOW is a great CD to put on repeat play when I'm sleeping. I listen as I drift off to sleep, and wake feeling like I drank my soul into the ocean.

How YES music affects me is best described by the opening lyrics of TO BE OVER

I can see that, i-and-i and I concur.

I've had a long look through the list and I would have to say that Yes music can do ALL those things to me at any given time (what a cop out). But truly, it all depends firstly what activity am I doing. Am I at work, Relaxing at home, On my walks, or just enjoying a beverage of my choice after a tough day. Then the next thing to consider is what are you listening to, 70's stuff, 90's Yes, Mag. Now if I was to "mix and match" that lot I believe I could tick most of those selections in the poll.

I totally go for the Yes ampage modes, in the morning or while working out. Firebird/Siberian K is still the best wake-up mix on the planet. Even the worst day at the office is quickly eliminated by playing Yours Is No Disgrace at top volume.
Conversely, after a day on the slopes, there is no better experience than listening to The Revealing Science of God and/or Ritual while driving down the mountain as the sun sets.

Yes music helps me to unwind and "escape reality", so to speak. One of the things that has always been so attractive to me about Yes music is it's "other worldliness", a feeling that when I put on Yes, I'm "going there" for a while. Then it's back to reality. So it's an escape, and a healthy one for the mind, which tends to get overloaded from time to time...

YES music helps to decorate those empty quiet spaces in the air. YES music relaxes me and strokes the synapses in my brain.

This was my exact same answer as soon as I started reading from top to bottom. Unfortunately my final answer was near the bottom.

YES HELPS ME TO TOUCH A HIGHER POWER and this in turn helps me to................

...Relax my body.
...unwind.
...Energize my body.
...Stimulate my brain.
...Awaken my feeings.
...Untangle my emotions.
...Ignite my soul.
...Calm my mind.
...Expand my thinking.
...Motivates my actions
...Wake up in a great mood
...Sleep better.
...Stay focused.

It depends what song your listening too. "Our Song", for instance, makes me feel really energetic. "Turn Of The Century" is really emotional. "Close To The Edge" does both of these, depending what mood I'm in.

whatever that means! There were a whole bunch of things that I checked. I can't say it takes me to a higher power. But it does enlighten me spiritually. I can't say it keeps me awake or makes me sleepy. But like i-and-i I've turned in while Olias was softly playing in the background. YES has many moods and any one album can fill out a day. . joe

Whenever I listen to the wonderous strains of Yes music I feel I have taken off on a great adventure, a trip to the ends of the earth, a transfixing journey to the land of beyond. Yes truly have the ability to raise me up on high and to take me to a pleasurable land where beauty and magnificence strike at me from all directions. Yes songs have this indefinable quality to raise the spirits and to make one feel the good in life once again.

Yes have always awakened my feelings and ignited my soul and because my soul is a higher power within myself it also expands my thinking... a little bit like the CDR busy spinning around in my drive at the moment, because - so far as Yes are concerned - its a revelation.

Funny... I didn't notice the choices, 'Makes me violent' or 'Sends me off into a deep dark depression'!

;)

If I'm in a bad place, a horrible mood, a state of anxiety...

YES is like a shot of therapy to me! I still believe that YES is a natural seretonin enhancer... I seem to be able to think quicker, I feel that all is right with the world, in some central essence...

And no other music can do that for me. True as true, YES is good for me, this I know!

yes music makes me feel like im tripping and i understand everything so clearly. especially awaken, and the end of gates, its like going to heaven but the sad thing is that to me heaven doesnt exist, so its the next best thing. its like visualizing a place where i want to be so bad but i know that its not real, but it doesnt matter, because i think thats what awaken is all about, realizing that there is no heaven or hell, but that all material things are but a pale reflection of mans inner satisfactions, good or bad, and that they are unecessary. the only things that make us feel any emotion are vibrations from anything, so high vibration go on, take me away from the earth and bring me back at the end and realize that only you and your soulmate really matter when it comes down to it. you are born to die, or have children, but it doesnt matter because you should just make the best of your life while it lasts, and when you dead it wont matter anymore. because there is too much to know, and we will never know anything really. wow, maybe im just crazy.

Well it has changed since the 70's..In the 70's it was incredible and differant(especially i went to tales first).I loved and still do all music. At the time in the 70's it was country rock, elp, yes, tull etc...But YES moved me that night and I was so relaxed and listened...through the years when friends would not go anymore with me to shows, like the 80's it was still a journey for me,Now I am 47 and still feal that in the heart and head journey with such a great and touching musical band..
Not much of a story teller but i hope i explained myself

I chose "Stimulates my brain" because that is all-inclusive, I think.

Yes is a transcendental experience, the combined energies of several people who have a deep, long lasting love of music, as well as a knowledge of music, beyond just knowing how to play a few chords. Because the musicians know that the auidiance is there for the music, and not the band members, the music is free from fear, willing to innovate, accepting of itself, without boundries formed by inhibitions.

Yes music is based on the understanding that great music has structure, is melodic, contains subliminal power, and evolves constantly. Yes music is a result of an agreement among the musicians that each of them is important, each has something to offer, and that the music would be diminished if any one of them were not present in the playing. Yes has survived as a band because who is playing keyboards, or guitar, or singing the vocals, is not as important as the music, which is the medium and the message.

I am in awe of the musicianship exhibited of every Yes album, but I do not hold the musicians up to be superstars, because that has nothing to do with the music. Some of the band members have created great solo albums, but it is blending the sounds together which makes Yes music so special, not the riffs, or the playing of the drums. In many cases, it takes a talented ear to pick out a seperate instrument for any length of time in a Yes song, yet each instrument is essential in the total sound.

When a band of virtuoso musicians agrees to put the music first, ahead of ego, ahead of fame, the music can become timeless, a statement of the muse.

That is my take on it, anyway.

It depends on what particular album is being played.

If it is anything from 1969-1978 I am uplifted and moved. Goosebumps race up my arms and if it is a particulaly moving peice, say like Turn of the Century, I may have a tear in my eye. This is music to just lie on the sofa to and close your eyes..you let this music just take you away to another world.

If it is anything from 1980-1994, I generally move through the tracks to the ones I like best... this music is more boppy and you clean your house whilst listening, dancing round the living room with your vacuum cleaner.

If it is anything from Open Your Eyes I feel physically sick. The tears are there again but for an altogether different reason.

As for the Ladder and Magnification..it is generally a combination of of the first two.

Hey there fellow yesheads :worm:
I have not been feeling well today and I'm finding it hard to do simple tasks. So I made myway to the stereo, not sure what to put on.Once again I find myself going toward tales from topographic oceans. So I put on revealing science Once again.
I must have played this song thousands of times in my past.Yet when I play it now its almost like the first time I ever heard it. Fresh and alive, stimulating and puts me in a happy mood.I get excited thinking of the keyborad solo soon to come.I started to clean my bathroom and vacume as the song went on,getting lots done.

The best Yes songs can take you on a wonderful musical and lyrical journey. Parts of certain songs, usually instrumental parts, can produce a unique sense of movement through time while other parts of certain songs contain a perfect blend of harmonics and lyrics to produce a sense of warmth and enlightenment. A Yes fan can actually feel a sense of "oneness" with the song when he or she reaches those parts of the musical journey.

While staying with a couple of friends who had a pair of parakeets, we noticed that the birds would really get verbal, singing along, almost, whenever Yes was on. No other group we played had the same effect on the birds. Anyone else ever notice anything like this?

I find Yes music kind of spiritual in a way. I like Roger Dean's art that goes with the music. It speaks to me of the potential of life and that we can live in harmony with nature (our world is our home) and that in peace, love and knowledge there is hope.

At one of the lowest points in my life I walked into a second hand music store and bought Union after not being into Yes for many years. Even though many think Union is second rate mash-mash of styles, it really helped me get some positive momentum back in my life. It was like the soundtrack of my turning things around that winter. I will be forever greatful and forever a fan.

It relazes me. I used to play Runescape which is some computer game that I quit. Now I make fun of it constantly! When I played that game I'd listen to the Highlights - Best of Yes CD and it would make the game SOOOO much more fun. Infact I probably would have hated Runescape if it wasn't for listening to Yes. Then I dropped Runescape and picked up Yes.

Ritual makes me happy on a hot summer day. Perhaps the French...Oops sorry.....

Actually, I find Yes's music to be uplifting in almost a spiritual way. I know alot of people throw that word around and I don't mean to be trite when I say this. I looked up the word spiritual in the dictionary once and the definition was something to the effect of " of the spirit", which leaves alot open to interpretation. So, all I really mean to say is that when I listen to Yes's music, I find that it uplifts my spirit a little bit.

The material is always musically and lyrically complicated enough to be interesting so I don't get bored after many, many listens and the message is almost always something positive about man and nature even if it in the form of a cautionary warning sometimes. Yes has a unique sound and style that always challenges the listener a little bit and I like to be challenged. I like listening to accomplished musicians who have something to say and deliver the message in a moving and poetic way. In the end,the music just makes me feel good.

Some music has detrimental, even harmful properties.

From the heart, I can't say I've ever experienced this.

Music is human. It's how we embrace, and sometimes how we damn, but it's human, it's expression, and I don't believe music can be harmful.

There are harmful people in the world, who could take 'Kumbaiya' as a clarion call to shoot passers-bye from a clock tower... But that's simply mental illness, and not the fault of certain notes arranged just so.

Music is pure. Humans are too, but sometimes they fail to realise it.

Kudos, cool post! ...Got me thinking.

Wholeheartedly disagree. Because of the power of music, it can definately be used for good or for evil. Just take a trip around the world to the lesser travelled, third world villages. It becaomes more obvious that way.
