Yes now I'll have to go have a listen too. Not sure what it's about, but it's one of my favorites on the Union album.
Oh and welcome to Yesfans, LySergiDe!
Lots of nice people here with lots of knowledge about Yes. Hope you have fun exploring.

I don't really know what Jon meant when he was writing that song. But for me that song has always been about somebody who is in love but the other party is not ready yet to get into some serious relationship for some reason or another. And so he says, it doesn't matter. My love will stay the same. I would wait forever until you say "YES!!!" and come into my life.

Heheheh, I'm giddy with excitement! But before I give my explanation, I still want to hear people's views on this song. Heheheheheh

Of course technically speaking - and I'm only mentioning it because kathi did - but technically speaking - so if you want to blame anyone then blame her - but technically speaking - because she mentioned it so its her fault - but technically speaking - so she can't get out of it with some excuse or other - but technically speaking - which no doubt she'll come up with - but technically speaking - because she real good at that sort of thing - but technically speaking - as we all full well know - but technically speaking - day in day out - but technically speaking - so I wonder what she'll say this time - but technically speaking - or what her excuse will be - but technically speaking - damn I've forgotten what it was I was going to say now..... erm.... ah yes - but technically speaking the one person who will and can wait forever, indeed far longer than some soppy fool singing a love song, is god - so its Jon's way of saying why he's such a little bossy boots.
of course is could also be that the songs is based upon the bands experiences with the British postal services aRoundabout that time and how long it took for a first class letter to arrive.

Hmmm... I don't understand.
Why would you state that Jon would be bossy?

Jon has something of a reputation for pushing his ideas on the others. They resolve many issues with "group decisions", but Jon can basically outvote any one, two, three, or four of them if he feels strongly enough. Many people feel that Jon has long been the "visionary" of Yes, but some also acknowledge that he's just plain bossy, arrogant, and stubborn.

Ok, I think I understand - but what does God have to do with it?

Hmmm... I don't understand.
Why would you state that Jon would be bossy?
Members of Yes, both in the present and in the past, have compaired Jon with some of the worlds greatest dictators - people such as Napoleon, Hitler and Stalin - and one would gather that what they have in mind is the way that Jon gets a idea into his head and runs with it and expects everybody, or at least everybody, to tow the line and do what he wants.
Dictators tend to look upon themselves as omnipotant - they have the final word and the final say in everything and of course the guy who does get the final say is God and not some jumped up little twerp who ran a country and murdered or was responsible for the deaths of millions of people... like all the 3 above mentioned idiots were.... so God is the ultimate dictator because God always gets the last say in everything.
In all religions, regardless of who the godhead is that the religion worships, then it is also excepted that god is the one and only person who will wait forever... in buddhist terms god will wait and can wait until every person is enlightened... in christian terms then god can wait until everybody knows and realises the divinity of god and enters heaven rather than hell.
So - when Jon sings 'I could have waited forever' he is more or less saying I am god and you chuffing lot had better just like it or lump it :D

Hahahaha British postal services... :dog:
It ain't funny - the amount of my mail that those dozey twerps have lost this past year alone..... GRRRR.... believe it or not but apparantly at one of the local sorting offices they have one set of mail that is all sorted out and nice and neat and tidy ready for delivery and another heap in the corner that isn't and the stuff thats ready is all the even numbers on each street and the stuff that isn't ready is all the odd numbers and odd numbers only get delivered about once per week or so I am told and the excuse they have is that don't have enough bins to sort both even and odd numbers at the same time... shrug... you know they always had enough bins when it was nationalised because we bought them :(

Orbert your siggy line is amazing! Thank you for adding some color.
Where is Michele when we need her? She would surely have a grand answer for us to the question.

Ok, so here is my interpretation of "I Would Have Waited Forever"...
This song is a song directed towards one individual and the divine destiny that God
has set out for him.
In this song, Jon is speaking on behalf of God and God is saying to this one person "
I would have waited forever, for you to return into my light" and that God would have
given this person everything he had, IF this person does not commit suicide (or so
I'm assuming...)
Then God goes on to say, "So true in the prize, would you wait for me?" - This means
that a prize will be rewarded to this person if he waits for God to deliver and does
not take his/her life, and the reason this person wants to take their life is: "all
becuase you got burned, so you took what you needed (what they needed to suicide)"
"Some will always turn away, say it's reason enough;" - people talking about the
suicide attempt
"Something calls at reverse and it comes to you;
Experience everything as it comes true." - The person lives and the prize that is
promised by God in the beginning of the song begins to materialize
"So - It will be then
Change - It will happen : The bad times will change to good
See - That we feel it
All - Is completed" : God's master plan for this person is fully realized - and this
line is larger in scope but I won't get into it here
Don't you want the world to stop short of giving?
Anytime of night or day, the magic things you love. : This is the prize that
materializes
Everybody hurts when you shout, when you walk away;
Talk about it according to you.
"So inbetween the perfect flame of you, this love will never let you down.
Just take it as it comes, for everything will come around." - This can be interpreted
as: So while in the midst of attaining spiritual perfection, God will never let you
down, etc...
And finally:
"Everyone will move with you now to the riverside;
Experience everything, but go with the landslide."
The river is the symbolic divide between this life and the next - Everyone moving
with this individual seems to state either Prophet or Messiah!
And there you have it! What do you guys think?

Thank You, and You're Welcome. (That sounds weird.)
The great thing is that I actually put it together for a completely different board, where we talk about computer games. When I came here, of course, I had to bring it with me.

I Would Have Waited Forever - I think it was about ABWH writing a good song for Union.
