Songs from Tsongas is the title of the forthcoming DVD from this year's live shows, due October 4th in the UK and October 20th in Japan. No mention of a US release that I could find. The DVD will have a 3 hour running time and be in both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 channel surround sound. This is the Lowell MA show from which the hour show on PBS was taken from. That could be why there is no US date. They are waiting for PBS to be finished with their version...and to get more of their members to order it through them as a membership award.
There has also been talk that a show from the 2002 tour, used for the Yesspeak dvd, might also appear as a concert dvd.

Judging from what I just saw on RAVE TV, the 2003 Montreux Jazz Festival HDTV performance would be a likely candidate to yield a DVD. (I might be wrong, but I think some of the footage from the Montreux show was played on Yesspeak. I'll have to double check tomorrow night.)

That's a bizarre release date for me as October the 4th will be my first wedding anniversary (a double celebration, then!). I am originally from the UK, too, although I am living in Australia now. I'll probably be able to order it online from the UK as I did the same for the Yesspeak dvd.
Cheers
Mark

Great news Dave! I hope they release a DVD of the 2002 tour. I never understood why yesspeak wasn't a show and documentary. I still have only viewed the documentary once, burned a copy of the music to cd for the car and listened to the 5.1 music only a few times.

Several shows were filmed on the European tour, I remember that the show in Poland was pretty good in review, but I am not sure...
We'll see what happens...first the 'Songs From Tsongas' DVD! Yeah!
But what or where is Tsongas?

This is excellent news! I didn't get to see the PBS special: How does the stage set come across in the show? So much has to do with lighting, and I imagine it looks pretty dramatic!
Anyhow, a new YES DVD is always a good thing... Can't wait!

I'd expect to see the Tsongas show when they say it will be out. But I'm not holding my breath for the 2002 tour dvd.
I did that for the live box set, and ended up passing out.
I did that for the official bootlegs and I ended up in the hospital.
If I hold my breath for this dvd, well, I might not be around long enough to know whether or not it comes out. ;)

This is excellent news! I didn't get to see the PBS special: How does the stage set come across in the show? So much has to do with lighting, and I imagine it looks pretty dramatic!
The Stage set comes across really well and the lighting is INCREDIBLE. For me, the mix was as follows.
-Just enough Steve
-A lot of Rick (unusual)
-Vocals are too loud. (with Chris being way to loud in the balance)
-Not enough bass guitar, toms, or bass drum. (of course, this was a tv broadcast coming through tiny speakers. Might easily be fixed with Dolby or DTS and a 5.1 system.)
I didn't feel the camera angles were as good as Symphonic, either.

I am still new here so I hope that the following is allowed. As much as I prefer to support Yes thru the site, I have now switched to another source just to save money. All of us who collect everything YES know how expensive that can become over time. So, if I have broken any rules tell me and it won't happen again.
After paying upwards of $ 25.00 for YES ACOUSTIC, I started checking out deepdiscountdvd.com where one can now purchase that for $ 11.21 w/free shipping and handling. YES-SONGS FROM TSONGAS is being released to them on 2/22/05 to the tune of $ 19.27. Anyone interested in YES-HOUSE OF YES-LIVE FROM THE HOUSE OF BLUES, that has a release date of 11/30/04 to the tune of $ 11.34.

Of course we care, I cannot wait for the DVD to come out, no use bleating about it though.
Ever the optimist, I hope the DVD will be launched at a time to gain media attention/promotion for another Yes tour. According to a recent thread wasn't Jon reported has talking about the band touring in the spring. It may be that they want to make sure the DVD is as good as it possibly can be, hence the tweaks in production. But I always believe there is a reason for the timing of releases. As I say ever the optimist.

Description:
Formed in 1968, Yes has maintained a loyal fan base over its long career. Outlasting other progressive rock groups of the 1970s, Yes is one of the more successful bands to emerge from that musical genre. Featuring live performances of songs covering their career, this release celebrates their 35th anniversary. Fronted by Jan Anderson on Vocals, Yes also includes Steve Howe, Chris Squire, Rick Wakeman, and Alan White. In this release, Yes exhibits a style reminiscent of the epic concerts from their past. Performing on a stage designed by well-known Yes Collaborator Roger Dean, the band plays songs including: "Going For the One," "Sweet Dreams," "Your Move (All Good People)," "Mind Drive Parts 1 and 2," "South Side of the Sky," "Turn of the Century," "My Eyes/Mind Drive Part 3," "Yours is no Disgrace," "Runaround," "Wonderous Stories," "Time is Time," "Roundabout," "Show Me," "Owner of a Lovely Heart," "Rhythm of Love," "And You And I," "Ritual," "Every Little Thing," and "Starship Trooper."

Wow! Three different countries! I thought that my wife and I did good by seeing them in 3 different cities (Philadelphia, PA ; Atlantic City, NJ my 46th b-day!! and Allentown, PA). That's one of the really cool things about living in Europe, you make a move and you're in a different country! Here in the States, it's another state, but, unfortunately the same country, if you understand where I'm coming from!

Paris is cool, I got lucky when I was in the U.S. Navy and took the train down from LeHavre. I could kick myself, though, because I didn't realize how close to Normandy we were. I would've liked to walk the beaches where so many brave men fought and died for freedom! Never got to London though, even though I was in Southampton and Liverpool. Liverpool was cool, birthplace of the Beatles and all that.

01-12-2005, 02:34 PM
Because it's the same thing as with almost every other DVD release- late, later, cancelled, you name it.
To be honest i actually expect this sort of thing to happen when it's a Yes product. Dates are announced and you know that they will not be delivered on, It still really pisses me off though. Big time.
In fact it is the single most annoying thing about the band, it's always the same.
I remember the KTA video release, "take it back to the store, the sound is not as intended," said Yesworld.
We took them back. And then-
Nothing happened.
For months....
AARRGH!!!
Same old story.
Why?

April 22? No kidding? Gods, I hope that date is intended to coincide with something important (the start of a tour with Patrick Moraz maybe maybe maybe huh?). Ah well, that is more time to bask in a few of the really nice DVD weeds. Lugano is amazing, I was lucky enough to get a copy recently. To think people were downloading it off of easytree even. They aren't official Yes products so they'd be bootleggers ripping off the band (and often the fans) if someone is selling them. But they are shared / traded / weeded freely, as the band very graciously doesn't seem to mind that happening. The Syracuse DVD was offered again in just the past few hours. The camera's a bit shaky at the start but after that it's great too. DVDs that include Dream Theatre I wouldn't know much about yet, sorry. Kind of new here still and still catching up with Yes :-)

Wait a minute! What happened to 'The Meeting'? According to Amazon, this track is not included!!! Maybe it's just their mistake or it might be that they cannot use ABWH record in Yes official release. Any idea?
I think that's mistake because "The Meeting" was on the shortened PBS Soundstage version and it sounded wonderful..

Ok I was listening to Jon's interview on Rockline and there was an explanation for some of the delay. When Jon was singing 'Mindrive' he had forgotten the words and so was singing the wrong words. So they are overdubbing on that track so that Jon will be singing the right words!

I know he had trouble with his teleprompter for Time is Time, and he had to sing the first verse twice, or something like that... I really wouldn't have noticed, the performance was wonderful, regardless
They fixed the AYAI problem for the PBS video, and THAT was certainly very noticeable that night. It doesn't sound nearly as bad on the audio recording I have from that night as it did in person. It is funny to see Rick in the background early on during AYAI wearing headphones while correcting the problem. The rest of the band carried on as if nothing had happened.
I agree that the material is ready for release and that the problems lie elsewhere... typical for the biz, while we get anxious for the releases and want them YESterday...

Dear Customer
Thank you for contacting us at Amazon.co.uk with your enquiry.
I have checked our website, and as per our records "Yes - 35th
Anniversary Concert - Songs From Tsongas" was released on February 7,
2005, and is now listed with the availability estimate of 1 to 2
weeks.
Each item in our catalogue has an availability estimate referring to
the amount of time it usually takes for the item to arrive at our
Fulfilment Centre.
The availability of the items from a few days up to six weeks
indicates that we do not have any of these items in stock and need to
order them from a distributor, supplier or publisher. The
availability of each item represents the time needed to obtain copies
of these items.
This indicates that it would take us 1 to 2 weeks of time to obtain
this item for you.
Once you know the availability, you can use the dispatch time to
calculate the total delivery time for the item. To determine when you
will receive your order, two factors need to be considered: the
availability of the items in your order and the delivery method that
you have chosen.

LOL, are you all still going over and over with this? :lmao:
Amazon will be no help. They'll ship it when they get it, period. All they can do it tell you the date THEY EXPECT or have been told to expect it to arrive. They've got absolutely no control over such things. Now, I've been told by a little birdie that it is in-fact being pressed, and will be shipped in early April to all reatilers. Therefore the middle of April is a good estimate of an arrival date. The hold-up was in-fact due to some required or requested post-production work.As for it being in surround, AFAIK it is in-fact in 5.1. The 1 one bummer about this is that Ritual in-fact has been dropped from the video. Much to frustration of a certain bass player. So be patient folks, don't pay any attention to what ANY retailer tells you. It will be out soon enough, jeez, I'm still waiting to see my cameo during Owner. I missed the one time PBS brodcast the shorter version out here in Cali.
It will come in due time folks!

Personally, I thought Ritual was TOO LONG and became tiring for me that night in Lowell. I suspect perhaps its length was a factor in the decision to drop it...

NO Ritual!! Wow, i've lost all faith in this DVD. I don't know who to blame. It has to have something to with the band, though. Seems every other band has amazing dvd releases. Wow, maybe I should've kept my mouth shut on the Ritual thing. But I'm a firm believer in lowering expectations anyway.
Here's what I know about that..... The night of my birthday party in December, when Scotty and Chris were so kind to call and talk to everybody, after he sang me Happy Birthday, how many of you can say that!
<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008_ZNxdm973YYUS' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_16_1.gif' alt='Bouncy 8' border=0></a>
We were talking and he popped out with "I'm so f**king pissed that Ritual has been dropped from the DVD" He didn't seem to know why. I'm sure that if it's been dropped from the DVD, it's also not on the VHS (They still sell those?) either. It could be for many reasons though. As far as I'm concerned, I've always been reasonably happy with Yes' official releases. The Symphonic DVD is spectacular in my opinion. One thing I'd like to say is that many bands music is very forgiving, an example being Rush' "Rock in Rio" vid. It's a great video no doubt, but the overall performance, if you really listen isn't all that great, but Rush music is very forgiving if not played perfectly. Whereas Yes music is usually right on the edge, if they don't play it well, it sounds like CRAP. And beig the perfectioniusts they are, they don't want crap performances released in an official manner. I think this is the hold-up or actual tossing of the idea of the live boot cd's. They just can't leave shows as they are.
On the release date...
Remember, this project passes between many hands. Each time somebody takes a bit longer to finish their part of the production it moves on, but when one entity takes a bit longer than the estimated time, everything else has to be rescheduled. I think the latst hold-up was the schedule at the pressing plant. You know it's a catch 22 for them, the fans want a release date, so the struggle to give an estimated release date as early as possible, jsut to shut people up. But unfortunately, sometimes they release the information prematurely. Then wham, when things get pushed back a bit, the fans have a fit.
Relax folks, it'll come and I bet it'll be a great DVD, no matter what's on it!
Wow, maybe I should've kept my mouth shut on the Ritual thing. But I'm a firm believer in lowering expectations anyway.
Nothing wrong with that Matt, the only good surprises are....well...good surprises!

So, you want to hear me "beach" about this new cluster F, that Yes is involved in,lol. It seems that it has been screwed up from the beginning,as usual. The release date changed more than politicians change their minds. The leaving off Ritual and the biggest cluster F of them all is two channel stereo instead of 5.1/DTS. Gezzz this is 2005,not 1972 Yessongs era, before it's over the DVD will be short as Yessongs or Philly. I am glad to have the Madison Sq Garden show. I am sure it will be better than what's released.
The April release date, well I will believe it when I see it on the shelf at Best Buy! Why can't Yes and their promo people be consistant? This is just another turberlent chapter withn the lives if Yes and the fan getting the screw!

But you know, I just understand why people are so worked up over it. It'll be done and out when it is. None of the retailers have any copntrol over it, and only post what they're told. Sometimes things take a bit longer than expected for many reasons. Again, the only thing that I can find to complain about is the fact Ritual has apparently been dropped.

No Vic, not at all.ean I love this band enough to spend over a month travelling around the U.S. to see 14 out of 18 shows on the Spring leg of the tour, and then saw an additional 3 shows on the Fall leg. I'd say seeing 17 shows in 1 year would stick me up at the top of the insane Yes fan, wouldn't you? I support this band in many different ways, but I wtry to stay grounded in the fact that things don't always go EXCATLY as I'd like them to. Many of us have become spoiled in todays world. It seems that many fall on the ground and kick and scream when things aren't just as they'd like or expect. I just try to be a realist, that's all. I attempt to explain things to people when they get overly excited, or seem to not really understand a situation such as this.
I think that if you look around, I'm more than likely one of the biggest Yes fans in the world. Although I won't kiss their feet that's for sure, but I will follow them to the end of the earth, and I almost did last year!

Smatt it is the Ritual issue that has me upset, definitely one of my favorite pieces and I wanted to relive watching Rick's participation as well, something we cant watch on Symphonic. After the PBS show was what only an hour, my attitude has been thats ok because we will get the whole show on the DVD and it will have the longer pieces that we didn'y get on soundscape. Ritual would have been my last pick out of the entire set list to drop. For me, I attended one show on the spring tour, and by the time they came back around they had dropped it in the fall, so the DVD was my chance to relive what I only saw once. Perhaps for you its no big deal becaus you got to watch them perform Ritual 13 times in a row.

Too much Rush Limbaugh there Don. Jeez, the only thing i could possibly find to complain about is that Ritual has been rumoured to be off the DVD. As far as 5.1` goes, AFAIK, it is in-fact in 5.1.
I think the list price is just fine, about average or even a bit cheaper than average. Release date? Well it'll be out when it's ready, what's the big deal? Are you all really that impatient? Come on folks get a life, grow up, turn off the talk radio snivelers and go out and enjoy the world a bit. :band:
Oh my,my,my.....smatt what does Rush Limbaugh have to do with my post other than me being a Conservative Republican. Before we get off to a political debate involving this post I am nipping it. I do not want to get into the bickering of the past, just move on with Yes debate and Yes only here.
Smatt in all do respect I just made a comment how Yes should have packaged the last couple DVD projects into one package, like others are doing now and having success. The Stones and Elton come to mind who have released such packages.
I do agree with you and I will not bow down to Yes. I am one of their biggest fans, but also biggest critic as all here know. That's just a Day In The Life of being a Yes fan.
I am though disappointed with Yes releasing the Tsongas DVD in Dolby 2.0 channel stereo and not give the option for 5.1/DTS. It seems to me Yes/management/promoters are really not in touch with 2005 technology. This is my opinion and mine only, as mentioned above I am as big of a critic as I am a fan and Rush well I don't understand where that was leading. Great seeing you smatt and have a great day! Have Earl buy you a beer and maybe one day we shall meet and we can share a few rounds.

BT,thanks for the warm welcome! I am happy we are agreeing about the Yes debate. A bit of news, I have been to the Amazon U.S. site and Ritual is on the setlist. I guess it is a wait and see as the release date gets closer.
I am as I told Smatt I am disappointed with 2.0 stereo and no 5.2/DTS option.I just feel that with todays technology the DVD could have been packaged in that format. Heck if YS and Acoustic can why not Tsongas? I still feel strongly that Yes should have packaged the DVD'S in a box set at a lesser cost, just my opinion.
Great seeing you again also BT,I have missed our debates about Yes. Have a greta day/night whatever the case may be and I look forward seeing you around as I pop in and about!

My guess is it will have 5.1/DTS surround. As you say Don, the last couple have all been. I would imagine the information that Amazon has is old, and wrong on two accounts. No Ritual, but dts.
I am another person who's bothered by the delay and lack of Ritual. That should of been the last song removed. And I know things are delayed at times, but the problem took place before it was ever filmed. If I had been Yes, I wouldn't of waited for the last show to record. We all know Jon is prone to forgetting the lyrics, and there are always unforseen things that can screw up a recording or a concert. I would have planned the recording so that if something went wrong, they'd have another chance to get it right. So what if they combine a show or two. It would of made the mixing/correcting job much easier. I mean, come on now. When I started this thread the release date in the UK was October 4th! Now its April. That's a SIX month delay. That's ridiculous.

Vic, I still can't understand why you're calling it a fiasco. It all seems pretty straight forward to me. Other than the one delay which was explained, it seems that you keep listening to the RETAILERS, instead of the people that really know what's going on. No offense brother, but you need to read the posts a little more carefully.

Play.com also have Ritual as being in the track list I guess we will never know for certain until this does eventually hit the streets

Thank you for contacting us at Amazon.co.uk with your concern.
I apologise for the delay in responding to your e-mail message.
I have checked your order and found that it
includes the DVD "Yes - 35th Anniversary Concert - Songs From
Tsongas," which has been released on April 18, 2005.
This DVD has proven to be a very popular item. We have many customer
orders for this item, and we've just begun receiving copies from our
supplier. We are filling orders as quickly as we can on a first-come,
first-served basis.
So Amazon think that they are really shipping this even though yesworld has the release date of 21 June.

The last reliable information I got was that it was due out on time. But that was a month ago.... I've got a couple probable theories on WHY it's been held back again.
1. They've decided to include the ENTIRE show, and therefore they need more post-production time.
2. For some other reason, somebody didn't like ti and wants to do some more work on it.
3. Classic Pictures has the idea that marketing it along with the swirl of excitement over the proposed Syn/White/Howe tour would be a goo marketing ploy.
It is out there in the trading circles Mike, I jsut recently saw it for the first time. Although I wasn't first row for THAT show, I was 7th row center and got about 7 seconds of good face time on it! ;) I though PBS or whoever did a very good job with the 1 hr edit of the show.
