(Instructions: Put Yessongs CD 1 into CD player. Go to track 4. Press Play. Enjoy)

00:00 The aggressive intro clearly bears the signs of Bill Brufords crazy drumming style and gets me into the mood immediately.

00:23 One of the main melodies is introduced by Steve and Rick and then Steve hits of for a first walk across his finger-board.

00:51 Chris takes over for a nice little melody before Jon starts to sing about the cold mist in the night. I can feel the shivers coming up…

01:31 Chris can never keep still; always wants to be a little eccentric, but in a subtle way (except for his trousers of course).

01:51 Return of the opening theme, and there you are…

02:53 This is almost like a chorus, with the whole band climbing up a mountain. Notice the pumpin’ bass. It will return in a crucial part of the song…

03:15 Opening theme once again. So aggressive, and so wonderful!

04.10 What’s this? Steve turns off his distortion and with a clean guitar sound plays a solo like a lullaby.

04:44 Another walk across the finger-board.

05:03 And then suddenly they go crazy! And I go to.

05:33 One of the main themes returns and Rick squeezes his Moog to produce this high-pitch frenzic sound.

06:23 If that wasn’t enough Steve decides to attack his board for the third time, throwing notes all around.

06:51 Sustain, sustain!! And when Jon joins Steve’s guitar I can hardly control myself. There you are…!

07:35 HELLO CHRIS!!! Decided to pump up your volume again to reach distortion level, huh? Please be welcome.

07:39 So, you also play reggae!? Wait a minute, this is supposed to be 1974, way before Dreadlock Holiday! Must be one of Bill’s influences again…

07:50 Have you noticed by now Steve hardly seems to play any chords? He is playing solo’s all the time, scattering notes all over the place!

07:55 Inside out, outside in, that’s how I feel at this moment with the band climbing up the mountain again, pushed forward by Chris’ pumpin’ bass sending shivers down my spine.

08:24 Any not so experienced listener would say the song is at the end by now. Surprise! It has only just begun. Prepare yourself for the most exciting 2.5 minutes in rock history as Steve Howe will tell you his personal story about life, universe and everything. This guy, only 24 years of age, has so much to tell the world…Accompanied by the waves of the Mellotron soundscape he will move mountains and create seas of tears.

09:35 This dynamic musical fairytale now turns silent with all band members solo-ing. Take me with you on your majestic journey…

09:57 He even brought his balalaika!

10:15 And now for Rick’s bass pedals. The last thing needed to push me over the edge.

10:25 And as Steve continues to tell about his life, his passion and his fears, by 10:43 I cannot hold my tears any longer. All my anger, my sorrow and my joy join hand in hand as I fall down to the floor.

Thank you for enriching my life with your music.

I take it you are refering to the live version of "Perpetual change"? Because Rick Wakeman is not on the studio version.

It's Tony Kaye on the original studio version, from "The Yes Album"!!

How did you come up with a name like that?????

Are you into physics and little quantum packets? hahaha

P.S. The hypatia was the first woman astronomer. I believe she was burned at the stake for her research.

A truncation of my email address. I work for a company called Quantumetrics

I am actually a scientist (but still a musician, though this is rare), but not a physicist ...

Three cheers for female scientists, astronomers or otherwise (and female musicians, for that matter)!

Love it! And today I will make it a point of giving it a fresh listen, using your notes as a guide.

What a powerful track - filled with musical metaphors, emotionally and intellectually stirring, inside out, outside in!!! Who's watching whom?

Make sure you play it LOUD (with no relatives or friends around).

Enjoy

Hi!

Hey, do you know Paul Vandermaas and Wim Wnijenberg? I gave them rides to the San Franciso airport last year when I went to the Yes Konocti Concert. They the funniest guys in the world.

Sorry, I don't know them. Which is strange since we only have 16 million people living in this tiny country of ours ;-). Most of them are quite funny though...

Enjoy.
