I was recently watching the YESSONGS and Live at QRP DVDs and I noticed that Steve is doing the headbanging thing for a lot of the songs, epecially on the QRP video.
Was Steve the first to bang/bounce his head while playing the guitar???
I know that Angus Young of AC/DC really made the headbanging famous and it seems to be a trademark of the metal guitarists.
Who banged before Steve ???

That's an interesting question custom!
Well, yes... Howe was one of the original 'headbangers'...
Headbanging with style, panache, and the chops of a Hendrix mixed with Chet Atkins and Wes Montgomery...
I don't know if I'd seen anyone else do the hair-flip thing before Howe...
Interesting observation, as that may be the ONLY thing that Howe has in common with other 'headbangers'!
I mean, Angus Young and Steve Howe... I can't think of two more different guitarists!

Steve is IMO unique in that his body movements sometimes appear to be 'out of sync' with the sounds coming from his amp. He's an amazing man to watch. Sometimes when he plays a tricky little lick he will make a motion like he's jumped over a small puddle to save his shoes from getting wet. The head banging stuff is also interesting but it's the involuntary movements that intrigue me the most. His whole being is so wrapped up in the music. It's a joy to behold.
