I have always quite enjoyed Chris Squire's FISH OUT OF WATER album, and wonder what others think of it. I just read Dragon Fly's recent message that FOOW was a let down. I for one think it's a noteworthy album. I like every track. I absolutely love SILENTLY FALLING and LUCKY SEVEN. I'll have to get the CD because the cassette I have of it is wearing out!

Nice topic
I bought the LP when it came out all those years ago. I keep it in a special place. I haven't played it for ages but I don't need to get it out and play it to agree with you completely i-and-i. Silently falling is a supremely classy peice, and there is nothing on the album that is 2nd rate.
Listeners will agree that the style aparent on "Can you Image - Magnification" was honed many years ago in a very fine way. Actually, I will go and give it a whirl - is it available on CD ?
Please Chris do more of this !

There aren't any US editions of Chris Squire's FISH OUT OF WATER or Jon's OLIAS OF SUNHILLOW on CD. I have just placed an order for an import of FISH from Germany. There's a Japanese one as well, but it's much more expensive. My OLIAS cd is from Germany. Wish I had gotten the more expensive Japanese version. The German version is missing half of the illustrated story and half of the printed lyrics. The sound is nice though. A friend of mine has the Japanese version, and all the cover art, inside and out is there plus an insert with the lyrics in both English and Japanese.
I like Fish out of Water. I bought it in the 80's on vinyl and still haven't got the CD version (available in some record shop in Paris or on order). I realised more what Chris' part was on Yes records, especially his vocal influence. It's true that there are strong relations between that album and Magnification. Probably one of the best 1976 Yes members' solos.

My memory is a bit hazy on this, but I'm pretty sure FISH OUT OF WATER has Bill Bruford and Patrick Moraz playing on all the tracks with Chris. Could be wrong, but I don't think Chris, Patrick & Bill can be heard playing together anywhere else.

I: The CD is currently available as a Japanese import; any decent store should be able to order it for you. I paid US$17.99 for it a few years ago.

I remember I came across this album by acident many moons ago. I was browsing through a second hand shop and the album was on sale for $2 ($1 US). Once I got my CD player that was one of the first one of my vinyl's I replaced with a CD. Import from Japan cost a fortune but then I did save a heap on the original recording. For me Lucky Seven is the track of the album. This rates very high up on the solo efforts by Yes members. Actually that wouldn't make a bad poll. ranking the various solo efforts. Must try and start a thread one of these days.
And what about the album "Esquire" which was I think Chris' ex wife effort. The sound of it reminds of Chris Squire's. I bought the tape by the end of the 80's at Virgin sales in London. Does any one know it ?

I think FISH OUT OF WATER is the best Yes related solo album. If only Magnification would have used FOW's standards when approaching the whole Orchestra thing. It's a perfect album.

I bought ESQUIRE long time ago. Not very impressive. Glad I bought it cheap. I don't have it anymore. Will never replace it.

I think I'd really love to see YES adapt SILENTLY FALLING as a YES track. I just love it. Especially the sequence where Chris is doing his bass thing at 500 MPH with the orchestra. How could anyone have not liked this at all? (Scratching head with a sledgehammer)

You would of thought that the current tour with an orchestrra would have been a perfect opportunity to showcase Squire with at least 1 song from this alblum. It is a great recording and the Bruford/Moraz pairing is marvelous.Btw,they did record two alblums for piano and drums during the 80's in case you guys are unaware of them.
