I saw Alan last night as guest drummer for the Spencer Davis Group (a songwriter who first claimed fame in the 1960's).
It was very similar to a show I saw last year just near Seattle.
Highlights:
Alan can actually play "in the pocket" as any decent R&B or blues drummer should.
Imagine (Lennon) was played as Alan recorded on the original.
I'm a Man (made famous by Chicago) was played as it is originally a song by Spencer Davis.
Reek Havoc (Alan's drum tech and Robo-drum builder) also accompanied the band as the percussionist. They did a drum solo in the middle of I'm a Man with Alan and Reek. An Alan and Reek drum solo! A rare occurence!!
*Time for a Break!*
A DRUM SOLO. Alan pounded the skins starting with the opening segment of Mind Drive. Then he went into a few of the Tempus Fugit lines with the bassplayer, continued with some dexterity flamboyance (Alan CAN play double-bass drum), and finished with the Mind Drive themes. Great little exhibition.
It was to cost $10, but it was free. Alan made his way around the bar area a bit. He looked in great health and seemed very relaxed.
