Me too, Koko. No contest.
I just finished going through a thorough explaination of my feelings on Talk in a different thread. I was very polite.

Magnification might be in my top five Yes albums. I really love it that much.

I love Magnification too. I like Talk, but Mag just hits an emotional chord with me that Talk does not.

Magnificate, magnification!

Well, flame me if you will but for me its Talk. Why? Simlple really. The emotional connection in the music does it for me on Talk. Very strong, hard hitting songs on this album, from Love to the state of the world is in and of course you have Endless Dream which is a masterpiece. Magnification still needs a few spins for me to 'get' it but even though I still think its great but there is no competition for me. Endless Dream alone does it for me its just beautiful, i've never been so touched by a song before [give or take Awaken]

Magnificent Magnification all the way.
It just runs all over you like a bath full of Jello.
I like Talk but it always seems a little cobbled together for my taste. (Loud bit, quiet bit, scary bit, quiet bit etc)

Exactly. Talk just needed just a touch more emotion.

Very odd choice of two albums to compare, but okay. I'm one of only 2 folks so far that prefer Talk. Magnification is a very well played, well produced, album It just doesn't do that much for me. Trouble is...I don't really know why. I can't even understand myself, let alone articulate it to others. I just know when I reach into my Yes collection and grab one of the relatively newer albums, it's much more often Talk, Keys or the Ladder. Don't get me wrong. Mag is still a nice set. Just not my thing I guess.

When I just bought Magnification I listened to it every night. I cannot say the same about Talk.

Gee, guess what I voted for?
Mag is a good album. It certainly was welcome news to me after OYE and The (Step)Ladder. The boys surely got back on track with Mag.
However, Talk is, for me, one of their 3 best albums ever (not counting Yessongs), along with Relayer and GFTO.
I realize everyone has their opinions. Just remember, we are all Yes fans here. I respect anyone's opinion of the band if they are a true fan.

Hello...I do not own Magnification...not sure why. After reading the posts I must go get it. I love Talk - saw 2 dates on the tour...really cool to me that Jon and Trevor wrote all that stuff TOGETHER....well recorded..definitely has that Trevor sheen to it...
rock on...

I like the emotion from Magnification, plus the fact they were a little adventurous in having a full orchestra accompany them. Talk has alot of good tunes but, to me, it doesn't have as much emotional quality.

In the future I may change my mind, but at present I'm more likely to put on "Talk" than "Magnification." I do enjoy the orchestra bunches on "Mag . . . "

I am Talk vote number 10 while Mag has #32 votes. Mag is too tame for me, predictable. But I love it when I'm in a no challenge mode.

I took to "Magnification" right away. I like "Talk" as well, but if I have to choose; it's "Mag".

for melodies and a clear liftoff to bliss, i choose state of play (especially the part "all i really wanna know right now..."), endless dream, the calling, etc.
for contemplating the mystery of it all, i go with magnification, especially dreamtime and in the presence of... in other words i just can't decide

Thank you. Please go back to what you were doing.

I don't mind Talk. I really really enjoyed it when it was first out. My parents got me the tape and I really liked it. What a breathe of fesh air after Union. I played it and enjoyed it. My dad who's been a Yes fan since the early 70's couldn't get into it. But then it really grew on him, and he got really really into it while I started losing interest in it and going back to the older albums. I enjoyed the Talk live show I saw, it was my first Yes concert but I was yearning to see the Wakeman/ Howe lineup. I was overjoyed when KTA was out. Meanwhile my dad listened to Talk daily for about two years straight and I got really fed up with it and sick of it. To this day, I have that album memorized forward, backwards and sideways.
Nowadays, it along with OYE is my least played Yes album. I look at it as a good but not great Yes album. Endless Dream I'm halfway on, I don't like it much on the album but it was incredibly transformed live. It was beautiful seeing it perfromed live and hearing the boots now. Live, it's given more room to breathe, the improvised sections help me enjoy it more. It sounded way too padded to me on the orginial album. I have a few favorite songs off Talk but it doesn't excite me much.
Magnification, I love that album. It's the best Yes have been in years. The only track I can't get behind is Soft as a Dove. Apart from that, I totally love Magnifcation. Even Don't Go. I find that a fun and catchy song. And of course all the long tracks (of which there are several) are just stunning.

Okay, I'm sorry. I listened to the rest of Magnification and it's just not my thang, baby. It just doesn't rock enough for me. I like maybe four songs.
So I'll have to pick Talk without a relisten. I've listened to it enogh to know that I like most of it.

To me "Mag" was a true disappointment after "The Ladder". "Mag" just got lost in itself - I enjoyed the live CD that came with it though :guitar: "The Ladder" is in my top 5 and "Talk" would be in my top 10 (probably 9 or 10) so I'll have to pick "Talk" over "Mag" (which I did). "The Ladder" is sooooo underrated (progressively and commerically).

"Magnification" with his "Seventees sound" featuring classic YES members certanly looks much stronger than "Talk".
As I earlier wrote It's full af conception, classic Yes conception. Spirit of Fragile and CTTE is wiling through all tracks.
So my choise is MAGNIFICATION ! The only !

I went with Magnification because of the Masterpiece "In The Presence Of".

Though neither is their best, imo, 'Magnification' just edges it. I find it to be a very patchy album (the lack of keyboards is a huge loss), but for all that, some of it still stands up very well- the title track, 'Time Is Time', 'Show Me' and 'In The Presence Of'.
'Talk' is a fairly humdrum album, imho. However, many seem to consider it one of their better latter day ones so there you go.

I must be from another planet. I've got Talk, by a mile. I could understand Mag being in the lead. I'm used to being SLIGHTLY off the beaten path, but this disparity is downright defeating.

Both have a different texture of YES. Real love is a rock masterpiece. The lineup for Mag includes howe and the song Magnifacation is wonderful up to the last 15 seconds.
Mag gets the vote

I love all YES albums...really. I have my all-time favorites: Relayer, Tales From Topographic Oceans and Tormato. And while Talk and Magnification are not on my short list of all-time favorites, I really love both of them for different reasons. But when it comes down to it, except for the three aforementioned favorites, where other YES albums fall in my heart are usually tied to what was happening in my life when I first heard them. Talk was released at a significantly difficult time of my life after the end of a relationship, and a new YES album was just what the doctor ordered. Talk became a sort of therapy for me (especially since the girl in question did not like YES). I listened to it constantly, and especially "Endless Dream." Lines like this really spoke to me:
When the world brings you down
You can search you inside
For the love you will find
(Bring me back home)

In terms of song(writing), Magnification has a few bad moments
(for instance: Time Is Time),
while Talk has a few good moments (for instance: Where Will You Be).
In terms of production, it's 10-1 for Magnification, Talk sounds so plastic to me...

Magnification, by quite a stretch.

I'm so glad Magnification is leading here, that's my pick. I love it's orchestration and it has a charming originality, I would love another Yes album of this quality. Magnification, In the Presence of and Dreamtime are just great and actually there is nothing on the album I don't enjoy.
Talk, I only got it quite recently, and haven't been able to sit down and enjoy it. It's power chords just turn me off, it may grow on me but I don't think it'll ever get near Magnification.
