Listening to a cassette of the 90125 tour. Man the energy is overwhelming. THe crowd just BOOMS with every tune. I wish I could have been into Yes then to have seen that tour. I bet it was absolutely electric with them being BACK and playing hot tunes at that time. They must have had fun.

I was there. The crowd was much younger, that's for sure!

I saw Yes 3 times in 1984. I saw the very first show in February at Millersville University in Millersville, PA when Trevor introduced Jon Anderson as "the newest member of the band." :lmao:
Trevor says he doesn't get nervous on stage, but he was a little that night, I could tell. He played the heck out of that guitar, that's for sure!! (Pretty good for a guy that almost died just 1 month earlier.)
And I got to see them play Our Song, which I thought was great.
Then I saw them again in May and then in September.
They did Gimme Some Lovin' as an encore. They had a lot of fun.

I got to see them twice that tour. It was amazing - the crowd reaction. I do remember, though, that a friend of mine at the Nashville show was angry about how Trevor played And You And I on his guitar and not a steel as Steve did. That was blasphemy as far as he was concerned.
Hey Tim, you don't want Trev to come back do you? I'd love to see another Union type tour in the not to distant future.

Agreed - the weeds of the Rabin years I have all share a racous, electric atmos. One other thing I love from the shows, however, is the evident confidence in the LATEST material, be it 90125, BG or even Talk. Now, I know people will say they had to stick to this stuff as they were a 'different band', but it was also true of the Drama tour and all previous - the majority, if not all, of the tracks from the new album being played (OK maybe not Tormato). Personally, I wish the later incarnations of the band had stuck to this principle, as while it's always great to hear a few oldies, what I (as a selfish young weed collector) really want to hear is the latest material. Union, OYE (which, not forgetting, also omitted all the Keys stuff), Ladder, Magnification tours - lucky to get three or four new tracks. As a result, Yes fans have hardly, if ever, had the chance to hear some absolutely wonderful songs.
I wish Yes had had more confidence in the stuff the were producing in the 90s, is what I'm basically trying to say.

.
Oh well. I'm glad TR didn't just trot out there and play exactly like Steve would. I've heard TRs live version of it a few times and he did beautiful job on it. I do see his point, but how far does a person go to respect the original version?

I like your point here, as I have long advocated such a thing. One could say, hwoever, that with 90125 and BG, however, that there was no problem in playing the new material as the albums were seling well. But Talk didn't do as well, yet they did play most of that work.
Unfortunately, the music industry has changed drastically since then, hence, they're playing what sells. It's amazing too to hear how many so-called fans are disappointed after hearing the acoustic set. I guess it just goes to show you tht peole wil get crotchety as they age now matter what generation they are from.
Back to the original intent of the thread. I had the fortune of seeing that tour too. Saw them at the Rosemont Horizon (now the Allstate Arena) in April 1984, and it did have incredible energy. I think those were the worst seats I ever had for a Yes concert, but I held onto that memory for many years. I didn't see them again for 18 years! But now in 2004, I will see them for the 4th time in as many months when I go to Ohio--and hopefully, my 16-year-old son, who is interested in them, will become hooked too.

I was, I think, 13 during the 90215 tour and trapped at home. So I'm jealous of all of you.
But I've seen Lyle Lovett in concert 11 times (including last night)! Does that count?

Sweet! I'll bet he puts on a "large" show to go along with his band.;)

His LARGE band, yes! He wasn't with the "official" Large Band last night, but there were 10 musicians on stage....later joined by a man singing featured vocals and a gospel choir of a dozen men and women. Awesome. Truly awesome.
