I'm not sure what you mean by cooked/canned, but I agree that the sound quality of HOB is rather disappointing.
One of the low points, to me, was YIND. While the opening BAM-BA-BAM-BAM (sorry I can't figure good onomathopeic syllables in english) {much less I can spell 'onomathopeic') filled up my speakers in Yessongs, it sounds weak and 'enveloped' on HOB (that seems a bad choice of effects from Steve more than a recording problem, but I'm not sure).

I thought YIND sound pretty good on HOB. I don't know about anyone elses but my cd sounds louder than most others. It records louder as well.
I bought the CD last week (at a good bargain price : 8,80 €). I found nothing outstanding on it. It's just OK. One thing I noticed though was the introduction to The Messenger made by Jon. His voice, elocution and rhythm on that bit made me think he could start a new music fashion : Prog rap.

I just don't like these little soundbites of Time and a Word & Ritual.
Overall I was reasonably pleased with it - the first official live YIND for 27 years, THE LADDER tracks sounded livelier and meatier than the originals and I even like the rabble rousing Roundabout(I know most people hate it)

ups - Homeworld is awesome
Best Keys ever on awaken
cinema is nice
and you and I - very clear and clean
downs - where is the bass especially on awaken?!?!?!?!
soundbites Time and a word, and Ritual pointless
no real opener just the last of chord --> YiND.
Overall worth it for the ups.
But hopefully we can it hear it w/ the bass intact oneday and then it will likely be the ultimate live awaken.

I listened to this album yesterday for the first time and having only heard it once, I think it's rather good. It has a good (live)atmosphere (it's good that they left some of Jon's between-songs talkings there, it's something I miss on Keys) and it's nice to hear the live versions of The Ladder tracks. It makes me think of a thing: Why don't Yes play more new tracks in the curent shows - they always play songs from the newest album but the other albums from the 90s as if didn't exist. I would love to hear them play at least one song from each of the 90s albums ... (if Steve doesn't want to play a Rabin stuff, then they could ommit Talk).
