Which group would you see if they both played Yes stuff and new stuff of their own and you plug in any keys player you want????
You can only see one or the other, not both. Also, in todays music climate which lineup would fair better among us core fans and the general public??

Him, I don't know if any combination of these people could really make a 90125 type impact in the music scene now. And that is in no way saying any of them have diminished in any way, I just think all have them have the attitude of 'been there, done that' and don't have that monkey on their back pressure to make a pop hit. Even Trevor, the scapegoat of the 'pop machine' ridicule through the 80s and 90s, seems to have moved on musically; even if he quit the movie biz and threw his hat back into making albums, it would probably sound more refined and orchestral than straightforward guitar rock. It's kind of a weird market right now, with so much hip hop and pop songs sung by girls that are 14 that look like they are 18. I think Yes is comfortable just settling in with their longtime fans and singing the classics, as opposed to any new trailblazing directions with Trevor or Billy Sherwood on anyone else that wants to make a '21st Century Yes'. I don't think any members, current or former, want to shuffle the deck, as it seems everyone is pretty happy with the way things are going.

Let's see. The choice is between:
Chris Squire: bass, vocals
Alan White: drums
Trevor Rabin: guitars, vocals
Billy Sherwood: keyboards
and
Jon Anderson: vocals
Steve Howe: guitars
Bill Bruford: drums
Rick Wakeman: keyboards
Tony Levin: bass
Why did I choose Billy Sherwood over Moraz or Khoroshev or Brislin? Because Chris is in Conspiracy with him and I suppose they enjoy working together.
The second lineup is basically ABWH.
Somehow, Bill being my favorite Yes drummer and the unfair comparison between Steve and Trevor, not to mention Rick against anybody else and Jon's voice, the choice is obvious.
However, given how much I enjoy Chris's solo efforts, it would be a shame to see only one of these lineups. Plus, when it gets to name, I think Chris will have the rights to name his band "Yes", while ABWH has to revert back to, well, ABWH.
In terms of popularity though, ABWH has far more commercial names.

What a choice! If I had to choose one from the other, then I'd go for Chris/Trevor/Alan/Rick.
2 reasons why I made this choice: 1- I'd love to see Trevor & Rick work together, 2- NOBODY could replace Chris in Yes! But that's my opinion. If Chris himself decided to leave despite whatever reason, or reaction from the fans, then only Tony Levin or Greg Lake come anywhere near Chris's standard, IMHO.

That may be true, but don't make Chris even think about elaving YES. That would be terrifying, the keeper of the flame leaving. What a tragedy. Let's hope that will never happen. May Tony stay with Peter Gabriel:-) I love him there most.
I'd go for whatever version includes Rick. So it woukld be Jon, Steve, Rick and Bass player of my choice Chris! If Chris is out of the vote there I'd pick Tony though.
I'd also like Rick and Trevor working together again, but not in YES. I hope will work with this line-up "forever"

This poll is not about Impact on todays music world, not about sales, not about this or that. It's soley aimed for us Yesfans that still follow the band. IF it came about as I layed it out here and you could only see one show, one line-up, which one!!!!???
This one makes you think. Do you go see the KEEPER OF THE FLAME or The Master?

Personally I think the Rabin side would be much better then one thinks. When ever rabin is in the mix folks tend to say they don't want the 90125 sound. Well, Talk was far from that. Rabin is older now, his mind and what he does has changed. Giventhe chance I think his side of this queston would put out a better, fresher sounding album.

The classic lineup offered has a bass player of our choice (Stu Hamm would be my mine), but no drummer? I'll go for Squire band. Trevor can sing, and they've still got Alan. For Keys, I'll pick Rick Wakeman who has wanted to work with Trevor in the band going back a long ways now. Don't get me wrong. I'm loving what we have now with all my heart, but framed in the way you've put this here (even if the classic had a drummer), I think the Squire lineup would come up with some fairly incredible stuff given Trevors forays into the Cinematic etc. over the past several years, and we'd still have that familiar and perfect bass/percussion pairing of WhiteFish.

no brainer -
Chris, Alan, Trevor!
And how about Moraz on keyboards?
Chris, as mentioned before, is the soul of the band.
Alan and Trevor can play anything that Bill or Steve (and Peter) could.

Well, it is not an easy choice, but after some thinking I'll go with Chris/Alan/Trevor and I would choose Billy Sherwood on keys, because I think as a keyboardplayer he is very underated and I think he works really well with Chris and since it was mostly thanks to him that we got some Rabin era material played when he was in the line-up I think he could work really well together with Trevor to.
The reason why I finally chose this line-up is that I've seen/heard the ABWH line-up and it was great, but I know what they can do and what they are capable of. I tend to think that the Chris/Alan/Trevor/Billy line-up would be a less conventional one, more adventerous so to say and I would really be interested in what they would do with both the Yes catalogue as well as composing and performing new music.

This is a lot closer than I would have guessed.
I've always wanted to see Rick play keyboards on a Yes album with Rabin. Depending on who you believe, it was supposed to happen on Talk, or at least it was discussed. I know the Talk tour would have been better if Rick had been there. I love Talk and I love it live but Tony Kaye is definitely the weak link in the band. Rabin just couldn't do live what he did on the album.
Anyway, Trev and Rick really like each other so who knows.........maybe someday.
You know, the former members could form an alternative Yes now, something like:
Vocals, guitars and keys - Billy
Guitars and keys and vocals - Trevor
Bass - Tony Levin
Drums - Bill
Keyboards - Patrick Moraz or Geoffery Downes.
I'd buy it!

I read an interview where Trevor said he's a better guitar player now than he's ever been. I wish he'd show us. :valintine

I completely agree that Trevor with Rick would be interesting. However, in this band, I would not leave the singing to Trevor or Chris. You'd need a stellar frontman and Max Bacon ain't it either.
Now as to the other lineup we've seen it on ABWH. They made a good first album. In fact, it was some of the best YES music in years. But the times they are a-changin'.

What a great question!
What was the question again? :lmao:
Al of these guys are excellent musicians and total pros. What we should do is close our mouths, open our ears and let whatever config. of the band wash over and nourish us musically. You ABSOLUTELY can't lose, and we all know this is true. ANY Yes show is 100% better than most of the crap that passes for entertainment these days.

I'm really hoping for a Banks/Anderson/Bruford/Squire/Kaye reunion with only pre-1970 songs performed. Maybe a new jazz-oriented album with this lineup.

Yep, that's my choice for bassist.
The Best lineup in Yes' history. Period.
Chris/Alan/Trevor and Patrick Moraz.
Of course, it wouldn't really be Yes without Jon, despite the fact they managed to do one album without him, but...it doesn't seem right somehow. I'm not even sure Trevor Rabin's guitar style would match Patrick Moraz's keyboard playing either...so maybe Tony Kaye would be a better option. I prefer Moraz to Kaye, so what the hey!
(I'm sorry guys. I had to rhyme.)

The soundtrack work has made me come to the realization that Rabin should be on stage in the lead. All others just dilute his music. I love his YES music. If he were to play in YES again, though, I would just be going to see Rabin.
