I was really torn between Symphonic and Blues and wish I could give a joint first. But if we also include ABWH and I could get hold of Yes music plus on DVD I would vote for that. I have the video and it is amazing...as near to perfection as they are likely to get, to get it on DVD quality sound would be mind blowing.

Symphonic by far. Just because of the tightness of Yes and the orchestra. HOB is a close 2nd,then Keys. It's a real shame that Philadelphia and Yessongs aren't complete, especially when Yes was at their peak no footage.

I am currently watching Symphonic, awesome is my feelings. I have never seen a Yes DVD so wonderfully produced, camera angles everywhere, sound extrodinary(what happened to the sound crew). I sit right now and think of all the shows that we have been deprived of. Why,does Yes do this? Their DVD'S sell from the ones that saw the show and ones less fortunate not being able to see them.
My vote is still for Symphonic, with HOB a close second. Maybe they will give us their best with the thirty-fifth annivesary DVD,lets hope so.

I don't have Symphonic, I'm going to buy it though (when I see it somewhere).
So I voted for HOB, I've seen it about 30 times already. :)

Symphonic is hard to beat . . very cool, and fun to watch. I would also say 'ABWH' would be right there, with House of Blues right behind.

Symphonic Live's the best, more because of the production than the performance (although that's pretty awesome, too).
For a combo of performance & production I'd probably choose the ABWH/Evening of Yes Music Plus. They were peaking at that time and much more energetic than they are now.
QPR and Keys To Ascension have to tie for the worst. QPR's audio is made for the deaf (a 5 year old must have mixed it) and Keys has the outrageous production with the picture not being in synch with the audio most of the time.
That's what drives me nuts - nobody has more poorly produced live material that negates the power of their performances than Yes. I don't understand why that happens to such a legendary band when other bands get it right.
They just blew it again with the HOB double CD. Horrible and without any low end! It sounds like it was recorded through somebody's boom box in the audience.

Symphonic is my favorite now, but I reserve the right to change my vote whenever 9012Live is released.

Think they will remaster 9012live or let us turn the animations off...

after just watching the qpr dvd i have to say i thought it was great.yes the sound is very bad to start with but it gets better.
its great to watch a show from that era and was worth the money just to watch ritual alone.i paid 12 pounds off e bay for it and i would advise any yes fan to see it if they can.

House of Yes is my favorite....the band is on FIRE on that one! Symphonic is great, but the band feels just slightly restricted by the orchestra to me...I agree with Scootyes about Yesyears, I think it is about time to put it on, I have such a ball watching that one (I think this is available on DVD through a Canadian release, but not sure)...I don't have Yesspeak yet, but I plan to get it ASAP...Keys is good, but could have been better....I like to put on QPR & Yessongs from time to time, lots of energy there....The Union Show (on VHS, Dubbed from Laserdisk) is fun, but incomplete (What is with the Budweiser Cartons on the roadies heads during Saving My Heart?)...My old VHS of 9012Live has about had it, but they are saying it will be released on DVD soon....I found Musikladen at the Dollar Store (On VHS) a few months back, great Vintage footage, but real short! Yes Greatest Vieeo Hits is a great companion to YesYears, featuring interviews from that same era in between the songs (VHS)...I dont have Philly yet....As far as ABWH, I dont have the Live video, but I have "In the Big Dream" on VHS & it is great!...I think that about covers my quick Yes video reviews!

Symphonic is probably the best production. And it's a lot of fun. I love watching the enjoyment on the faces of the musicians in the orchestra.
I just wish they'd re-do the Yessongs video, adding in the rest of the songs from the album, and taking out the corny graphics. It burns me to no end to be watching amoeba splitting with Steve blazing unseen in the background during the opening of CttE.

Don my friend, I am so glad I found this post. :) And SO glad to hear you say these things. I just bought this DVD and have not watched it yet.
Plus I just bought a decent new surround sound home theater.
So now I'm very excited to see this. I didn't know if it was any good or not, so did a little search, and your post came up! :smurf:

I'd have to say "YesYears", but I also love their 35th Anniversary DVD (except for the commentary by Roger Daltrey....)

Why have you not listed Yes Acoustic...it was number one in the UK Music DVD Charts when it was released earlier this year.

I think the "ABWH - An evening of Yes music plus" was the best performance ever filmed. I also like the "Union" DVD (released in Japan, region 2 only). There was a warmth about the concerts during this period, a sense of fun which contrasted well with the serious side of the songs themselves.
The Philadelphia '79 DVD has terrible quality but it's worth having as a testament to the excitement of the first "in the round" tour. To many people the live Yes of the late seventies remains unsurpassed.

Sorry, just having trouble to get this page to view. Could be a problem at my end.
Anyway, it seems that 67 people have voted for Symphonic Live, which I find quite surprising. Okay, it's very glossy and slick but the performance of Gates is so SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW. It's not meant as a criticism, but I guess I prefer the younger, angsty Yesmen that performed at QPR or on Yessongs. Much more rocky IMHO. So I went for a vote to QPR - warts and all!

Well, I see I'm in the minority hard on this one,LOL!And,I don't care.Much as I love 'Symphonic',this is my story with regard to the Keys DVD.1stly,I just got it.I've seen it once.In 1996 when the 1st volume of the CD's arrived,I found myself in tears, somewhere along the line there of say,oh,Revealing/America- and then again with Awaken.Once the 2nd volume was released I culled together the material with some older stuff(Yesshows) and made recordings for everyone in my family for Xmas-"Here's some mostly new Live Yes for you all, that I guarantee will blow your doors in!"And,it did! Then came the VHS.As much fun as I had with the CD's,my enjoyment leaped exponentially being able to SEE some of these performances(such as they are,and here I acknowledge every single criticism of the presentation as being valid, yet,my opinion remains unchanged). And so it was ...ANOTHER exponential leap to the DVD.This is the BEST setlist the band has ever performed which is available to the general public through conventional retail avenues. And here, finally,a small quibble with the flow of information. Why,oh Why wasn't I told how great this is!Although, that would have removed the joy of discovering for myself that it IS.The audio, upon one viewing so far(lol),appears to rely much more than before on the rawer output from those nights. Also,it appears to at least try to jibe up with the video from the same night,at least Somewhat more! And lastly, the video is almost totally reworked, giving MUCH wider views of the stage, much more detailed studies of the musicians, and many, many more fullstage shots.Even the widely criticised(many have said not so) special effects are more pleasing. My sister and I,based solely upon this one viewing(mind,we're veterans, here lol!other than our underexposure to this particular form of this production) repeatedly and firmly declared it to be "The Best Concert DVD Ever Made!"Okay,so it made us very happy!Okay so we had a few that night!Ain't that what it's all about? We thought so!...(k...okay...a PS...don't have and really want, really NEED ' An Evening Of Yes Music Plus ' !!The sheer thought of Bruford playing Close To The Edge has me ******** myself[the preceding edited for content]

Em, don't get too excited dude. I have the video from the Live boxset from years back- Bruford is quite uninspiring in his treatment of this classic. His reliance on the SDX electronic drums is not so good for the music either, imo.
It is a good show though!

...such are things in these latter days,VDG...LOL! @ & hopefully w/ya,tho...still the very thought of an actual live performance from Mr.Bruford on this classic tune he participated in creating makes one's heart quicken. Also,I've heard that several other tunes here are,at the very minimum,"worthy"!If the Starship Trooper on Evening/Plus equals or exceeds the one on Keys, then,I must seriously locate this presentation, too.Becoming increasingly hard to find, and pricey whenya do,too, from what I can gleen...

...'course I vacillate from day to day,and depending upon which DVD I'm viewing!...Symphonic is amazing & wonderful, too!LOL!Thing that always gets me about Symphonic is(& no disrespect here to the marvellous Mr.Brislin,or to that amazing young Orchestra,& Mr.Keitel) is the amazing power of the 4--Mr.Howe,Mr.Anderson,Mr.Squire,Mr.White.And how great is it,how much justice is there to the fact that, because there's an orchestra,Alan kind of BECOMES the default conductor?--and is he impressive or what? How great a performance is THAT?Ever seen a drummer work harder?

Yep, the most underrated drummer around! Alan eminates something brilliant that isn't always obvious.
I feel he's totally within the music- unlike Bill who seems to be playing it, but outside of it.
And yes, there are some great performances on that ABWH show....if only Mr Levin hadn't been ill!
