THEGOLDENCAT has started a thread looking for a trade for the Japanese only Union Tour dvd. While there is nothing wrong with his offer, the Union dvd has created some controversy both here and on other Yes trading forums. Here is my personnal experience with this.
I have the Japanese only laserdisc of this show. While I have never actually seen the dvd, I think they are the same. The laserdisc is a nice quality, but probably not as good as the dvd.
About a year or so ago, I sent a vhs copy of the laserdisc to someone I know on YesSwap. He was going to make a vcd of it and offer it as a weed. As soon as he did, he was told it was not a tradeable item. At the time I knew it was a "grey area", but thought it was worth a shot. Here's how it was explained to us.
Even though it was only released in Japan, it was an official item. The laserdisc can be played worldwide on any standard laserdisc player. The dvd can be played worldwide if you have a multi-regional dvd player. Therefore technically, it is available worldwide and thus, an item that should not be copied or traded.

I ordered it last month in Japan and received it 2 weeks back. I never saw it in the stores here in Europe. I think it is an official Japanese release, so I think you are right Nightliner.
It is a good (but not great) DVD. Yessymphonic is still my favorite.

Understood. It's just that I can't allow anyone to make an offer to copy that disc on the site. If you can get someone to trade you, or get you the original, that's fine. We just can't make copies. Its no different than the Symphonic dvd or the Masterworks cd.

But are they coded? or all regions?
I have no idea if its coded or what region it is
You mean your DVD player doesnt play all regions ?? Thats the first question anyone should ask when buying a DVD player. Maybe them manufactures will get the hint.
I do know that it works fine on my all region machine, but there was a problem playing it on a laptop PC at a Yesfanz meeting once

Now this is of interest! Is this yet another Asia/Pac-only release, or did it get a wider distribution?

It was a compliment mate! Bon mots (pronounced bon mo) is from the French, meaning, quite literally, 'good words' - as a means of witty riposte and badinage, it was en vogue (in fashion) during the Oscar Wilde (late Victorian) period of literature.
Indeed, the ability to A) think up and B) deliver such killer lines (as in your 'Great Yes Rebellion of '04.....') is a singular and signal skill (in fact a blessed ability!) and should be recognised as such. Well done and please keep them coming!
Cheers,
Bren.

Im not sure. I do know that its 2 seperate DVDs, like part 1 and part 2. each sold seperatly. I dont even know if its the full concert as opposed to the original video, or more songs, or less etc.

As someone famous once said, the only thing that separates England and America is the language.
Yes, it was former war-time Prime Minister of the UK, Sir Winston Churchill: "Ah yes, America and Great Britain: two great nations, separated by a common language...."
And this is what's known as an 'aphorism'. Churchill thought up and used so many that there is, indeed, a book dedicated to them. Here's another from him.
After WW2, and as the former leader of the US's chief ally in that war, Churchill (whose mother was American) was being feted by the great and monied families and industrialists of the US. His speaking/lecture tour took in a whole swathe of the great cities of the 'old money' New England states and the gentille polite society, anglophile southern states, like Virginia.
During a dinner in Virginia, given in his honour, he was, as ever, enjoying a large glass of single-malt whisky (which he could drink in heroic quantities and still not miss a beat) and holding court to a very appreciative audence.
The hostess of the event, in this case the Governor's wife, a fine figure of a woman and a 'Southern Belle' of notable cleavage and beauty, came round the crowd gathered around Churchill with two plates of chicken to see which the great man would prefer: one containing 'white meat' and the other, 'dark meat' (the difference being that in the UK, we say either 'leg' for dark-meat, and 'breast' for white-meat):
Governor's Wife: "So, Mr Churchill, which would you prefer? White or dark meat?"
Winston Churchill (glancing at the proffered plates): "Ah madam, you are indeed a most gracious hostess - I'll opt for a little breast please, if I may...."
G'sW (blushing): "Why, Mr Churchill, over here in polite Virginia-circles, we say either 'white-meat' or 'dark-meat' for our choice of bird..."
WC (now noticing the somewhat ample bosom of his hostess): "In which case, madam, might I opt again for some breast and say (now staring directly at her cleavage) that rarely have I been offered such well presented 'white-meat'?"
The gathering, after a moment's polite pause, to judge the reaction of the hostess, then descended into raucous applause and howls of laughter. Indeed, regardless of how much he'd had to drink, Churchill could keep this up all night, and, invariably did!
Incidentally, it was on this same lecture tour that Churchill first used, and coined the phrases, 'Cold War' and 'Iron Curtain'.
Keep 'em coming mate!!
Bren :D

The problem isn't buying the dvd, there are always copies for sale on ebay. The problem is it won't play on US dvd players unless its multi-regional. And buying it is the only legal, legitimate and ethical way of getting it.

Ya' know its crazy..cause i bought QPR on Ebay..and when I received both discs..one said multi region and the second disc said region 3 and it freaked me out cause I presumed i had a region 1 DVD player..but apperently it looks like mine is old enough that it plays "all region dvd's" thus far..I could be wrong...or just lucky..LOL
I really want to get this Union DVD..I had the VHS..and somehow i was stupid enough to let someone borrow it years ago..and now its gone..:(

Howe dy "All Good YES People" !
Regarding the YES : Union Tour Live Tour Dvd It's From August 8th, 1991 in Mountainview, California. I Recently purchased this Dvd NEW From a Seller on Ebay. He is Selling a Region 2 Asian Dvd. Howe Ever It will Play on A Standard American Dvd Player(s). Because My Home Theater System Only Plays Region 1 Dvd(s) and All Region Dvds. But this Dvd Plays Just Fine on My HTS System. I have a New Panasonic Home Theater System and it Plays just Fine. There are a few Japanesse Sub - Titles but not that many. And Once in a while you hear some Sort of squeling noise. Not sure if it is from the Audience or Filming Crew or the Band. It kind of sounds Like a Baby Sqeulching. The Dvd is 2 hours in Length. It has has Steve, Trevor, Chirs and Rick Solos in it. Trevor's Solo is kind of Classical with a kind of Eddie Van Halen Flavor to it. The Guy's Name That I purchased it From is Michael. His Screen Name on Ebay is Cyranose : Or / And Sympatico. The Label of this Dvd is Vap.com. I paid $30.00 Even Including S & H and Taxes. I Set up a Pay Pal Account and Charged it on My C.C just after my Billing Cycle Passed (So I would Make Sure that I would Not get Burnt on the Deal); I know that there was a guy on Gemm.com called Mundo / Mediawars that was Selling this Dvd For Considerably More and there May be a 15% Gemm surcharge and Mundo said that His Union Dvd would NOT Play on My American Standard Dvd Player. Howe Ever Cyranose From Canada (his Asain Dvd Does Play Great on My Dvd Player and Home Theater System. Bruford Occasion Smiles in this Dvd. I had to have this one Because YES are the Premeir PROGRYESSIVE ROCK GROUP! Hope That this Helps You ALL Clarify Things.
