Well, it ain't exactly progressive, but it speaks to the other side of my musical personality. I've been recruited to play with a Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute that goes by the name of Saturday Night Special.
Here's the best part: Artimus Pyle is our drummer! He heard the band on our website, called us up and said "Sounds great. I'm in". So now we can't exactly call ourselves a tribute band since one of the members of the band we're paying homage to is with us, so we're billing our selves as a tribute to Ronnie Van Zant.
We're playing 7 gigs in 4 days at the Laconia Bike Run, and we're renting a tour bus! Wow, this is like rock and roll fantasy camp for this 42 yr. old! Fun stuff!
If anyone cares to check us out, here's our website:

Aside from that, I'm still looking for people to jam with in the NYC area to satisfy the more cerebral (progressive) side of my split musical personality, so if anyone out there wants to get together (I'll play guitar or bass, and I just got a non-pedal steel guitar that I'm dying to use), give me shout at eric.tolnes@verizon.net

Thanks, all

...Aside from that, I'm still looking for people to jam with in the NYC area to satisfy the more cerebral (progressive) side of my split musical personality,...OMG, how exciting. Need anyone to HOLD YOU DOWN? (Not me, I'm preoccupied.)

Um...please, drop the word JAM. ...I can't explain myself, ... cause I don't know how to spell it. :D Something along the lines of breaking sound or music...jam is such an inadequate word. I'm partial to "sound paintings," but you'd get stared down on that one.

...split musical personality... are you a Gemini? :valintine

And the reason for my post:
Congratulations!

I suppose jamming would be an inaccurate description of what it would take to replicate Yes and other progressive music. You'd have to dissect, analyze, understand and carefully reassemble the music with a great deal of skill and discipline if the result were to be any good at all.
Jamming more accurately describes what the Deadheads in those "Jam Bands" do. Self indulgent dreck. Sorry, Phish-heads, it's my opinion, and I own it.
I'm a Leo, but my musical schitzofrenia is part of my curse. I'd like to say I'm a rennaisance man, but it's probably more accurate to say I suffer from a short attention span! LOL

I play piano/keyboards, although I haven't played seriously in quite a few years. I have the desire to start playing again and would LOVE finding people to "jam" with, but I believe I'm a little too far north of you. I'm in mid Dutchess county, probably about 70 miles north of the city, (I'll have to check that!) in the Mid-hudson valley.

EDIT > Just looked it up. It's about 90 miles to midtown from where I am.
