I had never heard Yes before I heard ABWH and the only reason I bought ABWH was because I had always liked the cover. When I first heard 'Themes' I couldn't believe my ears. It was the most amazing stuff I had ever heard. The music was extraordinary and I never knew where a song would go next. Five brilliant musicians getting together and creating something uplifting and beautiful. It amazes me how they can create a 10 minute songs and pack them full of great ideas.
From here on in I was hooked and had to listen to more and more Yes.
I think my favourite on ABWH is 'Quartet', it's just gorgeous, beautiful music for it's own sake.
There is such a positive vibe about this album, it just makes you feel great and glad to be alive. I also love 'The Meeting' and the track which Vangelis co-wrote, 'Let's Pretend'.
Yes by any other name created something really special here, as they always seem to no matter what the line-up. There is a wonderful positive spirit throughout their music that is particularly evident on this album, and also 'The Ladder'.
'Without this gift of rock and roll we'd all be wasting time!'

Just to add , the video "In The Big Dream" ABWH has a different version of 'Quartet (I'm Alive) than is on the CD. It's really cool !!

The album has some good moments for me. The tour just seemed to be missing something. It seemed very laid back.

I was sad the tour for this didn't come at all close to where I was living, and travel was out of the question for various reasons at the time. Brother of Mine, Themes, Order of the Universe all have the complexity and virtuosity I was looking for in new Yes (or reasonable facsimile) that I missed in Big Generator and 90125. The mixing of that album is terrible though.

For me the ABWH was another version of Yes without the name. It was sad that the "behind the scenes termoil" over the use of names, promotion etc came into play as the music it produced was excellent IMO. I also enjoy watching the video of the concert they produced. Love the intro with the solos.
