I had never heard Yes before I heard ABWH and the only reason I bought ABWH was because I had always liked the cover. When I first heard 'Themes' I couldn't believe my ears. It was the most amazing stuff I had ever heard. The music was extraordinary and I never knew where a song would go next. Five brilliant musicians getting together and creating something uplifting and beautiful. It amazes me how they can create a 10 minute songs and pack them full of great ideas.
From here on in I was hooked and had to listen to more and more Yes.
I think my favourite on ABWH is 'Quartet', it's just gorgeous, beautiful music for it's own sake.
There is such a positive vibe about this album, it just makes you feel great and glad to be alive. I also love 'The Meeting' and the track which Vangelis co-wrote, 'Let's Pretend'.
Yes by any other name created something really special here, as they always seem to no matter what the line-up. There is a wonderful positive spirit throughout their music that is particularly evident on this album, and also 'The Ladder'.
'Without this gift of rock and roll we'd all be wasting time!'
