Sounds like the red tape to enter the US - quite understandable from a security perspective - might thwart a lot of possible tours by Europeans (and other nationalities I suspect).

You suggest that the red tape to enter the US is "quite understandable from a security perspective". It is clearly sensible to act to prevent terrorism, but that doesn't mean that every proposed or enacted anti-terrorism measure is sensible. I don't know that the current red tape to enter the US is understandable if it causes more problems than the solutions it brings.
