Time to get writing reviews on some albums methinks.

Union for me, is a fantastic album. Alot of fans dislike it because of preconcieved notions about the band, as all the members are 'involved' with the album one would expect a huge colaboration of songs but since I was new to the band, I wasnt aware of this much and dived straight in and took it at face value.

The songs to me are the typical Yeswest line up style with some slightly simplified Trooper songs from ABWH. Hight points from the Yeswest line up for me are 'Lift Me Up' and 'The More We Live' Both songs are, IMO, fantastic rock tracks that showcase some great writing and playing from the band; Trevors uplifting vocals and sorting guitars in the former while the hauntingly beautiful lyrics in the latter with Chris and Billy take me to another place; I was mesmerized by this track when I first heard it! 'Miracle Of Life' is fantastic too; the most 'proggy' track on the album I think.

As far as the ABWH tracks, ' I Would Have Waited Forever' 'Take The Water To The Mountain' 'Holding On' are my favourites and while they arent up to the standard you would come to expect from such a line up, I just took them at face value and to me they are great songs. I love Steve Howes 'Masquerade' as well, which is just as enjoyable as Clap or Mood for a Day and makes for a nice break after Shock to the System.

I know alot of fans will scoff at this but what can I say? I just love this album! The tracks click with me so easily, and I find the lyrics in alot of them very meaningfull and rather interesting to be honest. I have to go out now but i'll add more to this Sunday since I missed out some tracks to comment on in particular. ;)

I've said enough bad things about Union.
And I haven't said enough good things about it

Trevor said that everyone says Union was a black mark on the band, and although some of the stuff on it was good, it was just done for the wrong reasons.

As he put it, "The suits got involved, thinking 'Boy we could make a lot of money here.' And so even though they thought they were manipulating the band, it was something that was useful and convenient to everyone, because we wanted to go on the road and it was a quick way. Half of it was an ABWH album, and the other half was a Yes album."

I like about half of it, and I think you can probably guess which half. :kissme:

I don't care what anybody say about it, not even the band members. I know what I like (in MY wardrobe) and I don't let anybody else make decisions for me.

Good for you! That's how it should be. We all have different tastes in music and in this case Yes albums.

The band members (especially Trevor) are very critical of their work and you can't go just by what they say.

I agree with every word Gabriel. It is a most underrated album. Maybe the way it was recorded wasn't the best, but where else can you have your cake and eat it too?. The driving riffs of Trevor, then superimposed by Steve's delicate and intricate guitar breaks makes my mouth water just thinking of it. To provide evidence of my claim just look at the clip from the 'Union' tour at the end of 'Yesyears' where they are playing 'Shock To The System', fantastic!

It seems my review has got this thread going! I'm so happy since I love reading what other people have to say.

Its most pleasing to see someone who can agree with my review; thanks mate!

Indeed though, each to their own!
