I'm trying to be sparing in my "shameless self promotional" efforts, but I'm breaking the code of silence to talk about a show I'm doing this weekend in Chicago. It is in fact my first show as an "ambient/electronic" artist. So if you are in the Chicago area this Saturday May 29th, and looking for something to do, come on down !!!

It has been my intention from the start to figure out a way to create an "Inner Worlds" type of experience, in a live setting. With that in mind, on Saturday, May 29th (next weekend), with the help of my friend, keyboardist Jim Gully, we will attempt to do just that. We will be debuting an hour long set of "other-worldly" ambient electronic & analog soundscapes, live and in person at:

TZ Studio and Gallery,
1834 W. North Ave
Chicago, IL
Gallery phone: 773 556-8676
gallery hours M-F 9-5p.m., Sat.11-5p.m. or by appointment!

Showtime for our concert will be at 8:00 pm on Saturday May 29th, 2004. Doors open at 7:15 pm. Tickets are $10, and for your money, you will not only be treated to the musical performance, but you will also be able to stroll the gallery and take in the current exhibition that is on display. During the concert snacks will be provided and gallery bar will open to the audience!

To get an idea of what you might be in for, you can preview sound clips on my website at www.kurtmichaels.com along with related news items and reviews....

The current exhibition at TZ Gallery features Gretchen Traves with "Project Hera". Gretchen is a well know Chicago artist who is unveiling her idea to the public of installing her art in the spring of 2006 in the oldest Greek temple in Italy!

Also: Gallery Gamma and Delta with "Far from Yesterday". The group show of contemporary Bulgarian artists in Gallery Alfa, and the Design show of Stoyan Stoyanov is in gallery Beta.

I hope that you will be able to join us for this very special event. Looking forward to seeing you there.

Kurt that's great. Only wish I could make it. Maybe if it were non-smoking and an all-age show lol. Good luck and have fun man.

Hey there....thanks!

Actually, I am not aware that it isn't a non smoking all ages deal. It's an art gallery, not a bar. I think its more like a private event. I suppose a phone call could clear that up. I'll see what I can find out......

You know, I don't know. It's been quite some time since I played a bar, so I really couldn't tell you....but I think you can. Most places I play seem to be smoke free, which works for me........

Hey Kurt, stopped by your website, listened to the samples, and liked what I heard very much.

The sound reminds me of something/someone, but I just can't put my finger on it.

I read your comments about delay loops. Interesting, as I love what Fripp does. I downloaded keykit MIDI programming modules some time ago, and its fun to play over diminishing loops on a keyboard.

Good wishes.

Thanks for stopping by the site. As they say in the biz, "Operators are standing by..." Glad you liked the music. Theres more where that came from. The follow up is "in the can" and *very* different in approach......

The truth is at this point I still don't have a way of recreating my cd live and in real time, so I'm not even gonna try until I've had more time to figure out how to approach it. As a guitarist, working with the loops is a way of recreating some of that vibe in a real time kind of way. We'll see what happens. The record is 85% keyboard stuff which I play all of, but I'm not really a keyboard player. I'm a guitarist by trade, so that's what I'm gonna concentrate on for the current performances I have sceduled. I have a great keyboardist working with me who has a nice approach to doing this kind of stuff and we're just gonna let it rip.

This is gonna be the proverbial "work in progress" for the next 20 years or so. Come on down and hang with us...we'll save you a seat !!!
