I bought this DVD and I was wondering if they play the entire Time and A Word and Ritual because I was watching and they only play a small section. Is my DVD faulty or do they just show a snippet of the song? The DVD came with a booklet that said the lyrics and it has all of them for both. Any light on the subject is greatly appreciated.

This subject has cropped up before. The use of the the title Ritual on the cover is very misleading, since Jon simply sings the refrain of Nous Sommes du Soleil a couple of times. Your DVD is not playing tricks! I have the DVD, but must say it's not one I watch often. I think it's a bit 2 dimensional. Symphonic is far better.

I think I know what you mean, but I'm not certain. Can you unpack that quote a little bit?

I was at the show, AND I"M in the DVD!!! (Right before Awaken) in the audience....I'm the one with the big grin on my face! And No your DVD is NOT faulty. That's how they played it, and the cover of the DVD IS misleading. It is a GREAT show, and I remember the "camera" moving around and above our heads (those that were on the floor standing), and I remember the show. NOTHING was cut out from that show on the DVD.

For me it lacks punch and character. Some of the performances are a bit leaden. Just my opinion. Yes still knock spots off most other bands live, but this one just doesn't float my boat.

Could you hear Billy (guitar or vocals) live? It's almost impossible to recognize his contributions on DVD

Are your sure nothing was cut from the show? I thought they played Close to the Edge (at that show only) and Hearts, but didn't include those on the DVD because the performances were not great.

The CD from this show is one of my least fav. I don't like the sound of it. Seems funky to me!

I like The Ladder tracks better on HOB, but I agree it's not the best live album Yes ever did.

hi,
the dvd holds the entire show as I've seen it in Brussels.
So no Ctte or Ritual or Time and a word completely.
Might say that the show at that time was a bit a rumble of sound at some times, which engaged my friend's first Yes-expierence and notable piano-shop owner and repair-man to neglect future shows.
His comments where : Jon's voice is unique. ( propably alt-soprano , and thus has to stay high , lower keys give him trembles in his voice. )....and the keyboard guy is very good.
My expierence is that the show ...at least till today...is the least interesting on DVD.
Especially "the messenger " is boring....and the other stuff of The Ladder is also not really interesting....but....offcourse..this is my opinion.
Sound of the DVD is OK and image is also very good...so still a must for every fan.

It's a great CD. I just wish...

* Chris would have worn something a little different than the sailor suit
* That I could actually hear what Billy Sherwood was actually playing

The production stinks, that's why. No low end and the overall sound is too trebly. I can't understand why this kind of thing keeps happening to Yes while other bands of even lesser stature seem to put out decently-produced live recordings. It's a shame and it must be due to blundering by Yes' management.

But I still watch and love the HOB DVD since its sound is better. But even it can't match the splendor of the Symphonic DVD. Yes, for the first time ever IMHO, finally put out a really good live recording (DVD or CD) that will impress production-wise.
