This is a post modern true Yes Masterwork.
The modern synth provided by Igor transports you directly to Roger Deans cover art... or "Homeworld" if you will.
Andersons' lyrics really take you on a trip on this one, and paints a picture of the "Homeworld" which progresses with every line.
Steve Howe has an awesome acoustic bit at the end, followed by a nice duet featuring piano by Igor and a typically happy ending by Anderson. Love it.

I like the CD a lot, but I usually skip that one.

HOMEWORLD has all the nuances of a Yes epic. This track is the meat of this sandwich, the other tracks are seasonings and NEW LANGUAGE is the dessert.

I actually like homeworld better than some songs from the "classic era". Jon Anderson sounds great.

Talk about an under-rated Yes album! The Ladder is outstanding, and Homeworld is, in my opinion, the strongest song on that album.

I will agree with you Larry and also that The Ladder is the best Yes album since Tormato. Now for all that have HOB on DVD and 5.1 capabilities, theres a 5.1 version of this song, sound incrediably awesome!

i liked ladder a LOT!! it was only front row in 30 years, so that might have something to do with it..;)
lightning strikes just keeps me going..

as for homeworld, THAT was the tune that got my 14 year old kid to listen to yes..
[he warned me to NOT buy him the video game with homeworld on it just because Yes has a song on it!! haha-BUT-then he tried to use yesmusic as a good reason for me to get him vice city--NO WAY, MAN! [he did get it-a couple years later, tho]

i like that song-i mean i just answered a star trek question for Q, and it reminded me of homeworld-it actually feels as if you are riding in a souped up version of the moorglade when you listen to it..
beam me up, too!
i can teach peace! ;)

Homeworld is indeed a great song and indeed the HOB version is even better then the studio version. I would love for the current line-up to perform this song live the upcoming tour, allthough it maybe would be a bit of a problem, since the song has been written with two guitarists in mind, but the Yesmen with their musical talents should be able to overcome this problem. And I noticed that I'm not the only one who likes to see this song performed the upcoming tour, since this song is one the leaders when it comes to '90's songs being requested to be played live.........

Underrateted. My favorite off of the Ladder. I would love to see them tackle this live, but with one guitarist and keys written by Igor I doubt it will see the light of the stage...

I don't see the two guitarists or Igor's keys as an issue. If the current lineup wanted to do it, these things could be overcome with little problem, I'm sure. Wakeman is more than capable of adapting the keys, and I'm sure with Howe playing, you wouldn't miss a second guitarist!

It's a wonderful song - actually the whole album is one of my favorites - a recurrent play in the car these days!

I agree with Tardistraveler about the replacing of Igor and Billy.
Although The Ladder is not one of my favorites, I think Homeworld is an excellent song. For me it is after In the Presence Of the best song Yes recorded since Awaken. I would love to hear it live and Homeworld is a great opportunity to include more "new" material in the setlist.

I'm going to listen to the HOB version of Homeworld right now.

I was listening to the 2003 Yokohama show all night. Which is AMAZING.

But now I'm ready for revisiting the past... And the HOB version of Homeworld is as good as it gets.

The perfect YES epic, and hell YEAH I would love to hear it again!

Our reason to be here, methinks.

Ditto the above, but can I have a word for 9 Voices! This is the track I downloaded from the Yesworld site pre-release that reminded me why I love Yes. Steve is awsome and it's (Earl, help me out here) probably one of the only Howe peices played in an open 'E' tuning rather than his usual classic common tuning?

Ditto Mr Holland, this Classic line up could blow this song out of the water, imho along with a fish. I hated seeing Billy go,he did some great things for Yes,especially with backing vocals. But my hero on guitar has this thing about another giutarist, good ol'e Mr Ego.But what the heck I would rather have Stevo.I do hope they perform this in the up coming tour, but I still await not just a new album, but the best since Tales.

Is it just me, or does Igor make a mistake on the beginning of his duet with Steve (the electric, not the acustic)? I found a mistake whe he played his first organ chord in that duet and found it ironic for a studio song.

Anyways, the best pop song Yes has ever done (with some prog elements included), better that owner (guilty pleasure) jaja

With the Ladder, producer Bruce Fairbarn wanted a spontaneous feel, so he put some of the earlier takes into the final mix, which might be why there is the odd mistake. ;)

Yes that probably was the cause. But that is nothing compared to the errors by Led Zeppelin in the studio:
_phone ringing in "the ocean"
_Someone screams 'stop' during "out of the tiles"
_Airplane on the beginning of "black country woman"
_The coincidence during a part of Stairway to heaven that if played backwards, you can hear "my sweet satan" and other satanic phrases

Homeworld would be the only track I really like so far.......the rest seems so--contemporary. Someday I'll write a whole damned essay on what made Yes what it was back in the 70's. Either ways, I'm glad they didn't stop writing songs like Homeworld.

I'm not a fan of the Ladder but I am of this song, especially the live version on House of Yes. It's a modern classic Yes song.

Hmm.. I listened to the whole CD last night, and it's not too bad after all. (thank you, DXM!) My mind tends to close at alot of contemporary styles, but in this case it's not some radio-rock I'm hearing, it's Yes. That's good enough for me; their legacy and following has earned my ear.

New Languages is a keeper too. In fact, to me, it's the best song on this CD.
