"New State Of Mind" is reason enough for me to own this disc. It's one of my favorite hard-rock songs ever.
The most significant thing this album holds for me are incredible vocal harmonies. If you've got the original release - with the pastiche of bird song and occasional a capella song excerpts - you'll hear just how tight they sang.
For some reason, and I can't remember the source, I was informed that Billy Sherwood was the driving force behind these complex layers. The band did some great vocal layers back on FRAGILE and CLOSE TO THE EDGE but haven't done similarly complex lines since.
Try thinking of this as some new band's album (not a Yes album) the next time you play it. You might like it!
