View Full Version : Live or Studio--Preferences--Correlations
I was thinking it would be fun to see if there is any relationship between the types of recordings you prefer (live or studio) and your first Yes experience.

Oops, gosh.
I was the first one to vote and I checked the wrong bullet!!!!
My real choice should have been "studio-studio". If anybody else would have chosen "live-studio", like I did (by mistake) please check "studio-studio" instead and we're even!
Sorry Pat....
WK
Mine was studio-live. 90125 being my first album.

CLOSE TO THE EDGE began my YES journey. I'm unable to decide which are best- live or studio Yes recordings. I think of the studio recordings as though they are 'snapshots of new born babies'. Then we get to hear how these songs have 'grown up' when we hear them played live.
Some of the studio magic doesn't make it to the stage. As great as live versions of CLOSE TO THE EDGE are, I'm especially fond of Jon's vocal overdubs on CTTE.
Very interesting. Looks like "first album studio" and "prefering live" is beating everyone out. That's the feeling I have gotten from Yesfans overall before I created this poll but wanted to test it out. It will be interesting to see if/how it shifts.

Not too sure how to vote on this one. I love studio versions of some songs and some of the live versions of others are great too. YIND on House of Blues is fantastic also PC from the same concert is brilliant.
But, as I don't want to get a reputation as a fence sitter I'll say Studio to live, but on the other hand...................

My first Yes album, and the first one I ever heard, was Yessongs, and to this day it's in a class by itself for me. Almost every song on it is, imho, better than the original, especially the Yes album material. Maybe not true for Roundabout and AYAI, but most of it. It proved what a great live band Yes was and still is.

I used to prefer the studio recordings. Now I generally prefer live material with a couple of exceptions - they don't pull off a good live CTTE anymore imo. I love the weeds, TWIL, Yessongs, Yesshows - love the energy, love the ambient sound.
