It struck me yesterday that just as the studio tracks from KTA I and II can be combined to make your own KeyStudio album, so can the SLO tracks be combined to make a very nice 2-CD live album.

Does anyone know the song order from the San Luis Obispo concerts?
It's a pretty easy guess that SK is the opener and Roundabout/ST are the closers, but in between?
There is a set-list posted on YesWorld, but there is also a disclaimer that they might not be in the right order(?)

Thanks!
Paul

Have you check out Forgotten Yesterdays? That usually is pretty good.

I may be missing a simple rule here in live albums but why didndt they just release them [the live tracks] in the correct order for, making for a nice concert from start to finish? Makes no difference to me since I'll still enjoy them but I always thought about that!

Well, in the old days of vinyl you had to re-arrange the setlist to fit the songs to about 20 minutes per side.
But that doesn't apply here, so I have no idea why Yes decided to release half of the live tracks with two new tracks on KTA in 1996, and then release the remaining live tracks with five more new songs on KTA2 in 1997 (on a different label).
And then re-release the studio tracks (on a third label!) in 2001.

By the way, I forgot this earlier, but here is the SLO 1996 set-list:

Siberian Khatru
Close To The Edge
I've Seen All Good People
Time And A Word
And You And I
The Revealing Science Of God
Going For The One
Turn Of The Century
America
Onward
Awaken
Roundabout
Starship Trooper

Forgotten Yesterdays says that there are lots of audience recordings from all three shows, and also two 3-CD bootlegs from the second and third nights, but I have never seen these as re-weeds (or on anyone's trade list).

I think their intention was to only release the first Keys CD. Based on that, they only wanted to release the live songs that were up to snuff. If you listen to the live songs on Keys 2, I think you may hear subtle mistakes or weaknesses in presentation. Then at some point someone changed their mind (probably the record company), and decided to release the rest of the live tunes and the other studio works.

Nic Caciappo gives the best description on what happenend during the SLO/KTA/OYE period. Just scroll past the tour dates.

BTW, the reason why the live songs on KTA 1 were chosen is because they never appeared on a previous live album (except for SK).

Oh, I see! Well that makes alot of sence so thanks for clearing it up guys. Come to think of it, everyone always seemed to praise KTA 1 rather than 2 so it makes sence they would release that one first without the intention of doing another disk like you said.

I'll check out that article now!

Christ, after reading that stuff in the article from the link that Peter posted here, I can say one thing; I feel sorry for how Rick was treated back then..and Chris and Jon trying to fire Steve?? Whats all that about!? I know it doesnt matter at all now but there was me naively thinking they all got along after being friends for so many years...talk about friction in the camp!

It;s simple, YES had the most succes with Trevor Rabin in the band...I guess they wanted to try to get a best of both worlds; with Trevor on guitar and Rick on keyboards.

I would have loved to see how that had turned out but then again if that would have happened maybe YES would have disbanded by now...you never know.

I can see how they would want that..it makes sence thinking about it just a shame to see them trying to fire a long time member. Trevor and Rick got along well so I guess it could have worked out!

Nic is notoriously biased. Rick good, Jon/Steve/Chris/Alan bad. That's all you need to know.
