I'm new to this site, so I'm sure this has been talked about before.
I think the version of "Onward" on Keys is much better than the version on TORMATO. I liked the original, but found the production a bit murky (as with much of TORMATO). Steve Howe's intro adds more to the live version, but also the use of acoustic guitar complements the simple beauty of the lyrics better than the electric on the original.
Just curious what everyone thinks?

I agree - I think its a song that should have featured more frequently in their setlists over the years. Those three SLO shows are the only time they have played it live.

Really?! That's a great ballad. I used to be in a band (well, more like a group of friends that got together) and we played "Onward" at weddings. It always got a good response. Of course, we were the only ones who knew it was Yes.
Yes should play it more often.

The only thing I don't like in the KTA version is the fake horn sound Wakeman used, other than that I also prefer it over the original. I'd love seeing it brought back, maybe this time re-arrange the horn solo for guitar or have a horn player guest with them. It would have been a brilliant choice for the symphonic tour.

Definitely! I played it at a wedding as well, as part of a rock-ballad-medley prelude, and it was the "coming down the aisle" song! They had no idea what it was, but asked me after the ceremony.

I like them both.
So do I; I even like the instrumental version that's a hidden track on the Rhino release of Tormato. But I LOVE Steve's acoustic intro on the live version. Heck, I'm a sucker for anything Steve does that sounds like classical or flamenco guitar... :hearts:

Yup Michael
And like Andrea said I love the version at the end on the Rhino. The Keys version is also wonderful and I even love the version on Tormato.

We had KTA Onward in our reception music CD. :-)
The only thing that bothers me on KTA Onward is Rick's sound. It also sounds like he is off the beat. :-( Otherwise a beautiful arrangement!
