Not sure if this is the right place to post this but never mind.
Anyway, we've heard Chris talk a little about XYZ but I don't recall anyone speaking to Jimmy Page about it.
Anyone know if he's ever said anything?

Ok, I reckon that probably wasn't a great question to ask!!

I do though, and I wanna know!!!!!!; )
Wonder what the sessions would've sounded like. I mean, can you imagine, Fishy and Pagey battering riffs off each other?
Would love to have been a fly on the wall for that one!

seriously though - Talking of XYZ - Around the time it was happening - remember this is in the days before internet/www etc etc - so the majority of YesFans - except for those really in the 'know' - would not have had any knowledge of this get together - anyway around the time it was happening I had a dream where I was talking with Alan white and Chris squire - and I asked them what they were up to - as we (yesfans) hadn't heard a thing about them for some 10 months etc...and Chris said to me (in the Dream) 'Oh! we've got an album called XYZ coming out - when I woke up I phoned a (Yes) friend of mine and told him about the dream - and he said - what? - naaaah! - you're cracking up....and Lo and Behold - some 4 years later when it all came out about their sessions with Jimmy Page - ...so is that spooky/strange or what????...

Well if the tracks I've heard are any indication of where the sessions were going then there's a good reason XYZ didnt come to fruition..LOL...But those were just demos that I heard of 4 of the tracks..and some of it was pretty crap. Interestingly though, 1 of them was Can You Imagine...which Chris saved all this time until Magnification. 1 of them was the basis of Mind Drive from Keys II.1 of them turned into a FIRM song from their second album called Fortune Hunter. ANd One, the most completed one was called TELEPHONE SECRETS. With Chris singing. This was the track that had potential. Apparently they wanted Robert Plant to sing...he wasn't interested and not quite ready after Bonzo's death...and once again management got in the way..namely Zep's management (Peter Grant)..and screwed up the deal. I honestly think it would not have worked out. I would have loved to have seen it ( THE TOUR...I mean good GOD)...but..hey we got YES back in the end :)

I agree, the Xyz demos (I've only heard a couple, I think) are less than impressive. But I just realized - can you imagine Plant singing "Can You Imagine"?! What a weird thought!!

I dunno...Im trying to picture it in my head...Plant singing CAn You Imagine? hmmmm..It doesn't work for me...(Im so biased anyway cause I love Chris' voice on that track)..The interesting thing was Pagey's take on the guitar for that song....interesting stuff. Chris never wanted to be a lead singer...hence part of the folding of XYZ as well, i think...cause Plant's voice...the stuff Ive heard (XYZ) it wouldn't have worked..Although By the time of In Through The Out Door...he was holding back quite a bit vocally, more restrained.

The problem you had with Squire/Page I think is you had all cool riiffs but no melody.
Which is kind of what the Howe/White/Squire thing was until Horn/Downes helped out Drama

YES!! Thank you...totally..the stuff i have just plods on and on..and has no "substance"..no melodies..just ideas that nobody could finish...I do like "telephone Secrets" but the middle section ..i mean I could play that..asleep..but Squire's vocals are nice..and Jimmy does pull of a couple of really weird solos.....overall...it wasn't gonna work.

Hmmm, all sorts of things running riot in my head now. Bit of a bummer trying to figure out what it would sound like, but I can definitely imagine the possibility of it descending into a kind of rifferama from the apocalypse type stuff. Hmmmmm..........
