I just saw VH1's "Shocking Moments" where in #79 was Rick Wakeman's "Myths and Legends...On Ice".
I had read about this on Rick's biography "Say Yes!". But I didn't know it was recorded on video, until now. They show plenty of footage on VH1's S.M. of knights fighting, Guinevere, etc. all on ice. So I'm sure this was recorded. But I've never heard of any release of this neither a bootleg.
Any info on this will be really appreciated.

hello upbgirl! Yeah, for a moment I thought that maybe he didn't wanted to release this and then receive all that crap again. Which BTW, what I saw (the footage) really kicked ass. That's one of my fav albums and I'm dying to see that show!!!!
Anyways, I just received a reply from Rick's site (I made the same question there). Quote:
Simple answer - Rick doesn't own the rights to it...

So, now that we know Rick won't release it. Who would have that bootleg? :crybby:

Myths is one of my all-time favorite works too. I wouldn't mind seeing some footage of this, and given my skating knowledge, then I'd tell you whether this was or wasnt a decent production, critics nonwithstanding.
Just as an aside, I did hear portions of the Myths overture used as music for a figure skating program several years ago. The score actual made for a wonderful program, so from an athletic POV, if the show was properly choreographed--and that's key here--it might not have been so bad as critics would lead you to believe.

I'm not really into the original Myths album, but I love the condensed 12 minute version on "Live at Hammersmith." It sounds a lot less bloated to my ears with just a straigtforward band playing it and no narrator or orchestra.
That being said, I would have loved to have been in the audience for one of the Journey spectacles.

As a former hockey player, I certainly have an appreciation for the art of figure skating. Many times I have free skated alongside figure skaters running through some basic elements, and it is even more spectacular when you're on the ice seein it all up that close... Anyway, it was during the Olympics (Albertville? or Norway?) that a Chinese skater used Rick's "Gone but not Forgotten" as the music for her competition performance, it was quite a surprise for me to hear that being used.
Arthur is possibly RIck's finest composition (although I have a soft spot for "The Wizard and the Forest of All Dreams") I can absolutely say there does exist some rare copies of the Arthur on ice program, and I'm working on getting one myself... Pardon the pun, but it's the "holy grail" for my Wakey collection...
Those were the days when the artist took cjhances and risked a lot of money and their reputations in an attempt to think "outside the box" Thanks Rick for having the *ahem* for trying this.

Thank you tecladista.
There are few people who realize what athletes figure skaters are. I have one of both--a figure skater and a hockey player. Guess which one had more aches and pains?

51 minutes of this tragedy was broadcast on BBC TV, I have it. Truly the low point in Prog history, although Wakey's playing was superb as usual. You actually feel embarassed for the band and the skaters when it's all over. The Lancelot Vs The Black Knight is truly horrendous, with both skaters donning some type of horse-shaped skirt.

A guy from Scotland is going to send me the full show on VCD this week.
I'll post a review as soon as I see it.

The "Arthur on Ice" show is really quite an interesting performance. There isn't too much ice skating on it, but I'll say Guinevere was done quite nicely and the lady skating the Guinevere part was very elegant.
The music for the show is quite similar to a boot I have of Rick playing Maracanazinho (an arena next to Maracana stadium - [world's largest stadium, I believe] complete with a guy whistling along with Rick!) in Rio from 1975. It opens with a very energetic piece from Lisztomania. It is also similar to the legitimatly released Journey plus video from Australia from the same year (1975)
If you treat this video as what it is (basically a bootleg), and not a "properly produced" video release, then you should come away saying it's not so horrendous or shocking (in a negative sense, which is what vh1 was aiming for) afterall.

tecladista is right.
I received the whole show a few days ago and I've seen it twice. It's great!!
And I think is extremely underrated. Various bands have done rare performances and they're considered geniouses. Rick added ice skating and he's "crazy".
I mean for me is more difficult to see the "Journey..." DVD with a guy sitting in a chair reading a tale. Boring as hell.

The quality is pretty good and I've been trying to download a good software to copy it and give it away at the "Trade" section but I haven't been able to get that software yet.
