The Beatles did it with Let It Be, so should Yes apply the same idea with T&aW?

By which I mean, should they release a version of the album with the orchestration removed from the mix? Would you be interested in it?

I would love to hear Peter Banks' work better. To think that so much of this great guitarist's stuff was trashed is sad. I'll bet Tony Kaye's keyboards suffered for the sake of the orchestra, too.

Let's hear it!

I am haunted by how great a song “No Opportunity…” would be without that cheesy orchestration in the beginning. I’m all for it and I actually think this is a project the Yes men should really consider!

I actually made my own attempt at a Time and a Word Naked cd long before Let it Be Naked was released. When I couldn't find a no orchestra version I went for an orchestra reduced version. I also replaced "Clear Days" with "Dear Father".

No Opporitunity....... (Beatclub)
Then (BBC version on Yesyears)
Everydays (1969 single b-side version)
Sweet Dreams (rough mix)
The Prophet (b-side version with guitar more upfront)
Astral Traveller (original mix with more processed vocals than Rhino's mix)
Dear Father (early version on Yes remaster)
Time and a Word (Yesyears mix)

But I also can't help but wonder what a proper 'naked' version would be like. I'm hoping Peter Banks will one day put such a thing together.

This would be a very cool thing to do ! I'd even love Peter Banks to be involved in the final production.

it would be cool but i'd still love the original.

Great idea but they would have to restore Peter's guitar parts for the exercise to make any sense. Anyone know if the multi-track master is still stored someplace? I'd be first in the queue for a remix!

Mk. I stuff is totally under-rated. Anyone read Peter's biography? It's a bit 'heart-on-the-sleeve' but gives some worthwhile unofficial insight into the early years.

Ha Ha, just posted in another thread that I'd like to see this album naked like Let It Be, and then I see this thread.

Weird.

peter is funny. he's SOOOO bitter towards the band, personally as evidenced by the liner notes of the BBC Sessions. i can understand: they basically act like he never existed.

I think the poll choices are too restrictive because the premise is that orchestration "mars' the music. Strongly disagree with that. Having said that, I would very much like to hear a "naked" TAAW version. I really, really like "Let It Be ~ Naked." The Long & Winding Road is haunting in its simplicity. I think the raw musicianship of Yes exposed in a "naked" recording would be very interesting indeed.

i slightly dislike let it be naked... it's kind of pointless in my opinion and a good way for paul to get some more money for a tour... oh well.

the orchestra wasn't "in the way" as much as it was on time and a word so i think this would be a much more interesting idea.

It Would Be Interesting To Say The Least. You Would Be Able To Hear Peter Better. But I Voted No.

how come you voted no out of curiosity?

"answer to yes!"

It would be interesting to hear the album minus theorchestra, although I love it as it is and think the orchestration adds to the work. Although the intro to no opertunity is great, if a little cheesy, when I heard the one playing in the background on Yesspeak when Chris squire's speaking in chapter two, I realised how cool that song could be without the orchestra.

I do, however, really like the orchestration on this album despite the fact that Magnification succeded a lot better. The track list should be left in the same order but with dear father tagged on to the end as the ninth track, as it ends on a climax.

I'd be curious to hear it, but I love the orchestra. Especially on Everydays and The Prophet.

i agree.
i don't think the orchestration "mars" the music, but i'd love to hear it naked.

I'm so against this idea. You don't colorize Citizen Kane, nor do you alter a Picasso. TAAW is a great album especially because of the orchestration, and I think Yes was one of the first rock bands to try that. It's as much a part of the album as the orchestra in Magnification, and you don't want to mix it out of Magnification. Leave it alone!

i suppose that's true... and in that case i don't support let it be naked either. :D which i don't, it's not as good that way.

If you want TAAW naked just buy the UK version of it with the naked chick on the cover

I would be interested to hear how Time and a Word would be without the Orchestra in it; after hearing Magnification live with Rick doing the parts, I think it would be quite interesting!

I didn't vote because the choices assume you think this is agreat album, which I don't.
If a naked version came out I would definetly buy it and listen to it like a brand new album.
