This is quite a long shot, but if anyone here happens to live in/near San Francisco who wants to join a Yes cover band with me (bassist), email me! Here's my classifieds posting with more information: craigslist (http://www.craigslist.org/sfc/muc/23343631.html).

Michael BB here from Madison WI.
YES cover/tribute/? bands are FanTasTic!!
They are also as complex a human endeavor as you could stand. SO.... a few easy but important tips.
1. Make sure the tempos are SLOW enough so the vocalist can breathe adequately. Intonation is dependent on AIR in the Lungs, and not as much on the Ear or Voice of said vocalist.
2. If you let the band evolve at its own pace. without a timetable, the players will feel more inclined to rehearse and perform with a good feeling, rather than some kind of imposed standard
or " Big Brother"-type watchful, critical eye.
3. Don't get too hung up on accuracy or reproduction too quickly. Mapping out the structures of the songs and getting those set in the mind is more important at the start than getting every pitch and tone down, if that turns out to be a goal.
4. Make it as FUN as possible! Everyone has pressures in their lives, and if your group turns into another one, your future members will sour much faster on the experience.
5. Make an arrangement to record as many rehearsals as is practical, even just a few open mics to a cassette deck. Keeping a sonic record is a great help to musical progress, and an invaluable document of your long hours and dedication. Good Luck! email to info@prog-music.info for more,well... INFO

WOW! No, YOU rock. Yes and Stephen Colbert don't seem like typical cross-over interests.
