...but it's not our Alan White. I didn't even know there was another drummer named Alan White. I'm not familiar with Oasis, but looks like not all Alan Whites are cool guys...
From CNN (http://www.cnn.com/2004/SHOWBIZ/Music/01/20/music.oasis.reut/index.html):
British rock band Oasis has fired drummer Alan White, according to a terse post on its official Web site (http://www.oasisinet.com).
"Alan White has been asked to leave Oasis by the other band members. There are no plans to replace Alan. The band's scheduled recording sessions remain unaffected."

Not that I expet Oasis to get a fair review at a Yesfans site, but as a big Oasis fan, I was saddened to hear about Alan White's leaving the band. (By the by, there are eight or nine Alan Whites in bands across the UK - unless they're all the same guy, which would be fantastic). What's weird - for those who care and/or remotely interested - is that Alan White was set to quit due to a medical condition and that was the initial press release, then up-and-wham, Oasis announces they've asked him to leave. Who knows what really happened - Noel is notoriously propagandizing when it comes to dissent within the ranks. Like Bonehead a few years back - enh, whatever. We'll have to wait for the Anthology years from now.

For all the hype about Oasis a few years ago, I have only heard one song by them, "Wonderwall" and wasn't even that impressed with it....

Maybe if the real Alan White (of YES) was the drummer Oasis would be better

I have seen Yes in that bin too, so it's all relative. Oasis, IMO, is a good band. A lot of people got turned off by Liam's cliche rock attitude, but his voice is great for the type of songs Noel was writing, and Noel made some good songs and is a really good guitarist compared amongst his rock peers. Everybody tends to remember 90's rock as being all about grunge, but I put Oasis up there for making some of the better music from that decade. There is a lot more to them than "Wonderwall".

It seems criminal to fire someone who was planning to leave for medical reasons.... I'm indifferent to Oasis' music and the antics bore me. Seems as much publicity stunt as a band.

They're a bunch of wankers.
I feel both duty and spiritually bound to concur wholeheartedly with my earstwhile countryman! The first two albums by Oasis were, whilst being derivative, quite excellent; good time rock-n-roll, a bit like hearing the Georgia Satellites for the first time - kick-arse-full-tilt-boogie; kind of a refreshing change from all the s h i t e which passes for today's rehashed and pre-packaged-pop.
Alas, then their founder and lead-guitarist, Noel Gallagher, thought he was both Paul McCartney and John Lennon incarnate (twat) and his younger sibling, Liam Gallagher, began telling anyone within earshot that "Oasis are the greatest rock-n-roll band in the world....", and then developed an even bigger God-complex (even bigger twat) than his older brother.
Heigh-ho: sic transit gloria mundi etc. :D
PS: Ironically, Oasis from Manchester, where I live.
